my mother is having a colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon, and has trouble preparing for them. the stuff she has to drink (i’m not entirely sure what it is) causes her to uncontrollably vomit; i believe it might be a liquid saline laxative. i know its a tad gross but if anyone has any suggestions i would really appreciate it.

I suggest she talk to the doctor about an alternative prep plan. Drink a lot of water….milk of magnesium, suppositories, there are many options but is she knows there normal prep makes her sick she should talk to them about options because differeent doctors and hospitals do things differently there should be an option easier on her stomach. Suppositories wouldn’t go to the stomach at all. Unfortunatly since your usually not able to eat….that can make your stomach acidic and upset all by itself so drinking a lot of water is important to lesson that a bit.
i actually had to drink that saline laxative. it made me vomit the whole bottle. i had to force down the secound one. what worked for me was i would drink some then let my stomach settle some. it was very disgusting but if i did not hold it down would have to do it again. and i kept that thought in my head.
Contact her doctor and let him/her know that the laxative is making your mom throw up. Ask if she can use enemas instead & what restrictions there are for her eating and drinking tonight.
Someone should accompany your mom to the testing center. Bring some water with some crackers or plain bread in case she’s a little hungry afterwards.
A colonoscopy isn’t too bad these days thanks to technological advances.
