First and foremost, with IBS you have to make the necessary dietary changes and remove the foods from your diet that are creating the inflammation that is triggering your symptoms. Odds are that you have many food intolerances and you don’t even know it.
You should start with the most common sources of food intolerance…
1. Wheat/Gluten
2. Dairy
3. Soy
Also with IBS you typically find severe dysbiosis (imbalance between good and bad bacteria in your digestive tract). So you have to start rebalancing you gut so that the beneficial bacteria can thrive.
1. For starters you can cut all sugar and processed foods out of your diet because these do nothing but feed the harmful bacteria and yeast which will only make your symptoms worse. The most effective strategy is to starve the bad bacteria off.
2. You can also add a good wide spectrum probiotic supplement which will help replenish the good bacteria. A good one that you can get online is Dr. Ohirra’s. This along with everything above will help introduce more beneficial bacteria and allow them to take over and thrive in your gut.
You’ll also want to make sure that your bowels are moving properly or else this will only worsen you symptoms.
You can add a good fiber supplement to your diet like finely ground psyllium hulls which will help regulate your digestive tract. And you should also be drinking 1/2 your bodyweight in ounces of water every day to ensure that you are properly hydrated.
As far as hypnotherapy is concerned… It can definitely help but just know that it will not fix the underlying cause of your IBS. But it can help reduce the stress on your body and help your body recover faster. It can be a good tool to use together with what I recommend above but is not enough by itself.
Adjusting your diet to a completely BLAND and repetitive diet for a few weeks should help level it out. Then you can add in foods and judge their impact on your situation (IBS) without variable.
Hypnotherapy would only work if your cause of IBS is due to anxiety/stress.
Anti-depressants have been shown to have good results for IBS, there are a few approved for such uses. If it is severe enough, it would be worth looking into. IBS is incredibly uncomfortable.
I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome about 4 years ago. I tried all sorts of things – peppermint oil capsules, drinking green cholorophyl, even colonic irrigation.
Then about 2 years ago I had to get some allergy tests done (pin prick test). One of the things they test is how your body reacts to candida (aka yeast). The test indicated that my body didn’t tolerate it well and the doctor said i should try cutting out food containing lots of yeast e.g. bread, alcohol, cheese.
I’ve cut those things out (ok, not entirely, but I have cut back) and my IBS symptoms have disappeared.
Not saying this will work for you too, but just wanted to share this story – it’s something you could try.
