What does it mean when you experience occasional dull spasms coming from your rectal area?
I am 20 year old male and sometimes when i get the urge of getting a bowel movement, I sometimes get a sort of spasm like sensation coming from my rectal area…its not exactly a pain, but its a sensation that feels like its sucking in and like a needle prick like at the same time from within…the spasm lasts only like 3 seconds and once i defecate everything is fine.. Is this cause of concern or Is this just normal nerve response from the urge to defecate ?

It could simply be the normal muscle actions of the intestines, (peristalsis,) or something more serious, as proctitis. Proctitis is inflammation of the lining of the rectum, called rectal mucosa. It can be a condition secondary to, an STD or some auto immune diseases, such as, Crohn disease. It can also occur after a course of antibiotics, which can produce a side effect similar to, irritable bowel syndrome. If you continue to have this on a regular basis I would see a doctor for diagnosis.
If it worsens, look into Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome for men. Also see Proctalgia Fugax.
It could be muscle spasms anywhere in the pelvic floor. They tend to refer pain to areas beyond where they occur. It can be painful, but not damaging.
