the stomach and small intestine are both made from protein!

What does irritation of the small intestine mean?

One drastic method that has been used to help people lose weight has been to remove part of their small intestine. Explain how this might help.

Lumen of the small intestine.

Just wondering…I’m working bio homework, and I’ve tried searching on the internet…would really appreciate help, thanks! reference site would be amazing too!

i have just started my AS in biology and just wanted some advice on this question really: do the cells need lots of RER to make many proteins which then travel to the golgi body to be added to carbs/lipids that have been made in SER. and are these modified proteins then enzymes which are obviously needed in the small intestine to digest molecules? thanks x

like if u swallow someone’s cells/DNA from their Saliva, or some wild women and man swallow some sperm cells after giving people head. and all that has going into the stomach, the stomach could probably destroy the cell but not the DNA right? then to the small intestine, but what i really wanted to know is…..can the bloodstream and small intestine absorb cells and dna and sperm cells? and if it happened, it absorbed, there are someone’s DNA/cells in ur body, can ur get like 2 kinds DNA in ur body?

We all know that small bowel resection is a method to join normal intestines using a suture thread. Over time will the small intestine naturally join / close together (e.g when you cut yourself with a knife you wound will naturally closed / healed) or its still depend on the thread to hold them together?

I have a theory that if we can inhibit the absorption of sugar (absorbed by fascilitated diffusion), fats, and/or proteins in the small intestine, we could control people’s weights. The stomach would still get its ~15%, while the small intestine would get considerably less than its normal rate.

I thought of this while in physiology class. But it is true, we all like to eat. America could get in shape, eat great (not necessarily heathfully), and people would get rich! Sure, some like to argue that some people in the world are starving. But if we can get it, why not!? It will be produced!! We could eat a half pint of ice cream after eating a nice steak. To wash it down would be some delicious, very full-bodied beer. People would not even have to go crazy, just eat what they like to now..double portions and all. I hate eating 200-250 calories four to five times per day just to maintain a weight of 130 pounds! I can’t even think about a decent serving of ice cream or chocol
And rememer, this would just be really cool because it could surely control obesity. Some people have too much trouble controlling what they eat, but with this people won’t have to worry so much and we wouldn’t have countried full of obesity.

When animals eat protein-containing food, the protein is broken down to amino acid molecules and the amino acids travel from the lumen of the small intestine to a blood vessel. Proteins are polymers of amino acids. Explain how an amino acid molecule in food you ate goes from being part of a protein in your small intestine lumen to a molecule in your blood. The lumen is the open space inside your intestine.

If you overdose on laxatives (which is basically what they make you do) will the tip of your small intestine be inflamed for the colonoscopy the next day?
Thanks!

I hear it’s usually common in the newly born and elderly. The large intestine takes over – or devours – the small intestine, and there’s a lot of vomiting and a lack of eating involved. The patient’s skin may pale as well as their eyes. What is this called?
@Gracinda – Oh, thanks! Aha, sorry if saying it devours is incorrect, that’s just how I’ve always thought of it to do. :P

T/F? The rate of absorption of iron from the small intestine into the blood is directly proportional to the amount of apoferritin in the epithelium of the intestinal lining.

My son had an endoscopy and they saw lymphocytes in his small intestine in the biopsy. I’m going to ask the doctor when I see her next, but what could that mean or indicate?

In a little less than a week I am going to have a portion of my small intestine and a little bit of my colon removed. The surgeon is planning to sew the remaining ends together so I will not need a colostomy bag. My question is what is recovery going to be like. I have crohns disease so I know its going to take a little bit longer than normal for full recovery. I’m pretty nervous so any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Compare the lining of the stomach to the lining of the colon and small intestine.

Which of the following is the most direct result of the presence of acid chyme in the small intestine?
A. The liver produces insulin.
B. The pancreas produces hydrolytic enzymes.
C. The stomach produces pepsin.

and Why?
D. The intestinal lining produces the hormone secretin.
E. The gall bladder releases bile.

Digestion in the small intestine is controlled neurally and hormonally. Describe these processes. Please help me? Thanks. (:

Would ADP would increase or decrease the molitity in the small intestine? Please help

Whenever I put pressure onto my bellybutton it hurts, in the general area of my small intestine.. It almost feels like there is gas built up there, but I can’t release it. I have no other strange symptoms, and I’m not pregnant. What could it be?

A FOOD MOVES INTO THE LARGE INTESTINE FIRST
B NO DIGESTION TAKES PLACE IN THE LARGE INTESTINE
C FOOD CANNOT REMAIN IN THE LARGE INTESTINE FOR MORE THAN ONE HOUR
D THE LARGE INTESTINE IS LONGER THAN THE SMALL INTESTINE

From what I’ve heard in the past, an enema is only capable of cleansing the large intestine, but if enough water is used, is it possible to completely rid the small intestine of everything as well?

Blood leaving the small intestine is rich in amino acids and monosaccharides but does not contain proteins, disaccharides, or polysaccharides.

a.Explain why amino acids and monosaccharides are present and proteins, disaccharides, & polysaccharides are absent.

b. Explain how these components are related to each other i.e., how amino acids are related to proteins AND how monosaccharides are related to disaccharides/polysaccharides.

The large intestine is about 6.5 centimeter wide but only 1.5 meter long.It is much shorter than the small intestine. Then why is this intestine called a large intestine?

This is a question I have to answer for a biology lab. I know that the small intestine has villi but I don’t understand why the large intestine does not. Wouldn’t villi help it absorb more water?
