I went to a GI because I was having severe abdominal pains/cramps, unusual bowel movements, severe weight loss (about 30-40 lbs) and a lack of energy. I know that colon cancer runs in my family, but I didn’t think he would go there yet. However, he planned for a colonoscopy/EGD for me and he only found one 13mm polyp, but nothing else that was of note (though he did test me for H. Pylori as well). But I was reading about colon cancer and found that diets high in red meat is a risk factor, and I eat a lot of red meat (I am allergic to fish, shellfish, and poultry). I am scared because ALL the women on my mom’s side of the family going back to my grandmother have had colon cancer (my mom, her sister, and my grandmother – the only females on her side) and my mom also had breast cancer (I don’t know if that effects it.) I am only 23, and have been trying to read about how quickly polyps grow. 13mm would be realtively small right? It was easily removed without difficulty (snared, cauterized, etc.) so I don’t think it was that big of an issue. How quickly do polyps grow? One nurse taking care of me told me that she thought I had Juvinille Polysists (or something like that, but I read about JP and it definately doesn’t seem to fit me at all). So any help is really appreciated. I am worried, but feel like I am just worrying because I am not very educated about cancer. Everyone else in my family was diagnosed after their 50s, so they really can’t give much advice. Only thing my mom said was that luckily they removed it now, because it COULD have become cancerous (if it isn’t now) because overtime the risk of polyps turning cancerous is greater.

So thanks guys, please help set my mind to ease. Waiting for the call from the Dr’s office is really killing me.

IWhy haven’t I had a normal bowel movement since my colonoscopy 24 hours ago. The colonoscopy showed no polyps.

I have been having persistent diarrhea for months. I have been to doctor, and she wanted me to try some diet things, fiber and such. Then if that didn’t help was going to refer me to gastroenterologist.

Well, in between those 2 visits, I had my yearly mammo and was diagnosed with stage IIb invasive ductal carcinoma. I had a bilateral mastectomy and I am currently in chemo. I am also HER2+++ so, I am being treated for that as well.

Still having serious diarrhea issues, though and oncologist sent me to GI doc and I had a colonoscopy yesterday. No polyps, but he said my sigmoid was very inflammed and he sent off biopsies.

Obviously, I am worried. Is it possible to still have colon canacer without him finding any poyps or growths?

I am savvy enough to use Google, I was just hoping for some personal experience. Thank you for any answers.

I’ve been seeing a gastroenterologist about rectal pain and he suggested doing a flexible sigmoidoscopy without sedation rather than a full colonoscopy because I’m pregnant. He said we can remove any masses we would find during the sigmoidoscopy.

The thing is, he kept reiterating that polyps don’t hurt above the dentate line, internal hemorrhoids don’t hurt above the dentate line yet I have a mass above the detate line that hurts ALOT when I touch it. I know they don’t use anesthetic when they do hemorrhoid banding for internal hemorrhoids, so I’m assuming they wouldn’t use any anesthetic. But whatever it is, it hurts a lot just touching it so I can’t imagine the pain it would cause cutting into it. I’m pregnant so I really don’t want to do general anesthesia.

Does anyone know? Do they numb the area when they remove things from your rectal wall?

Both of my grandfathers had colon cancer; one died from it and one would have if his respiratory issues didn’t take over first. My mom, age 50, jus went for her check up and had polyps removed.

My question is should i be checked out? I do have intermittent periods of loose stools and constipation however i eat a very crappy diet and I’ve always accounted it to that. Advice?

I had a colonoscopy three weeks ago. The doctor said that everything looked normal – no signs of polyps or diverticulitis. I had the colonscopy because I’ve been seeing red blood in my stools and bleeding from my rectum intermittenly. Two days ago I saw bright red blood in my stools. I don’t know if I should follow up with my gastroenterologist or not. I’m not in any pain or discomfort.

While this is an issue I hate to talk about, I am willing to try anything to get help with this. Starting back in November I’ve been having almost constant pain and discomfort in the rectal area. I have no insurance but I was able to get a colonoscopy which revealed polyps and an internal hemorrhoid. I know surgery is an option but I know things won’t be the same if I get that done. Any real tips would be helpful. I have a great sense of humor but this is serious so please spare the sarcasm.

I am 21 years old and I had a colonoscopy in August of last year. The reason I had it done was because I thought I had some of the symptoms associated with colon cancer. Colon cancer does not run in my family but my father does have some type of digestive disorder. Anyways after the procedure the doctor told me everything was okay and I should include more fiber in my diet. I am still having the same symptoms but they seem to have gotten worser. Could polyps form within a 9 month span?
It was a specialist a gastroenterologist

Is there a difference other than the time frame involved? This is what I mean, when someone needs to get their colon checked for cancer or polyps or whatever at the doctor’s office, they have to drink this nasty liquid stuff the day before that totally cleans your system out.

Then there is the stuff you can buy over the counter or online. Something like this is what I am referring to….

Why does one take so much longer than the other… is one more effective?

What other factors should someone who is thinking about doing this take into consideration? I have heard of hydro cleansing but that is not an option due to the high cost. So that is why I am not inquiring about that now.

Anyone have any first hand experience with either one of these, even both would be better. Thanks a lot everyone.

I’m 14 year old male, and I am not obese or anything.
Note that I have minor IBS symptoms but I’m not sure about this one.
When I press on the lower right part of my abdomen (about 3 inches above your right leg) I feel some sort of thing when I push on it and it makes a little vibration in my abdomen, It’s not a lump but it feels like muscle and I think it is my appendix.

Does anyone else get that feeling of when you push down on the right part of the lower abdomen it makes a minor vibration in your stomach, Or is it just me with IBS.
I went to my GP and from my description of symptoms he said it was IBS but I haven’t been tested for it. I think it is the start of the ascending colon as it feels like it.
You have to go right deep as I am pretty skinny to.

I doubt this is colon cancer as I have no family history of it, I don’t smoke or drink, I’m not sure if I have any polyps either.

I also have a very very very minor stomach ache, you barely notice it.
Hope someone tells me what it is,
Jack.
Ok, my stomach doesn’t vibrate. A little vibration occurs of where I pushed.

I recently found out through a family member that my dad is going to Phoenix to see some specialist for colonoscopies/colon cancer. He had his colonoscopy and polyps or cysts were found. Does anyone know if Phoenix has any unique cancer treatment centers/diagnostic centers? I’m very confused about everything, but I can’t confront him about it because he’s not supposed to know that I know.

Hi. I am 23, female. Healthy height and weight. Sorry this question sounds disgusting but it’s very serious

OK. When I have a bowel movement, there is so much blood. This has been going on some months. I got worried and I was sick so I had a colonoscopy done about 2 weeks ago. The colonoscopy was fine and they said there were no polyps or anything. But the bleeding won’t stop. Now in fact it is 10 times worse. Literally the toilet will be filled with blood.

I started taking fiber but that hasn’t helped. I eat healthy. I reduced meat to once a week and only a very little. I eat fruits and veggies every day, really barely any dairy products. Lots of water and no soda. I never drink or smoke.

The weird thing is that there is really no pain when I use the restroom or anything. I have had terrible hemmroids before, and there is no pain like that.

Should I be worried now? Is this common after colonoscopy?

i am also diagnosed with chiari malformation I. bleeding is bright red on paper and on stool. does not feel like hemroids. so far docs have not been able to find anything excepts some polyps that they removed a year ago. i am really frustrated.

My wife went in for a D&C on 4/15/09 due to polyps. The doctor perforated her uterus. Last week, she developed diverticulitis and there was a CT scan that showed free air in the abdomen. She was admitted into the hospital and then rushed into emergency surgery due to a complete blockage in her small intestine. Can a perforated uterus cause diverticulitis if the bowel was affected? In addition, can this also result in a blocked small intestine?

nephew is 26 has had nephritis since he was 10 juvenile then has now followed him to adulthood and he now has polyps some think may be cancerous can you have two diseases at once

I took a laxative about 2 months ago to clear up my first case of constipation since I was a kid (I’m coming up on 30). Ever since then I’ve felt like there is something lodged in my descending colon. I went to see the doctor about it out of fear that I had colorectal cancer. They performed a colonoscopy and nothing showed up, no polyps or even hemrroids. I don’t have diahrrea or excessive gas, so it isn’t IBS. The doctor seems to think that it’s my diet. But I eat healthy and have never had this problem before. Now I have a constant feeling of pressure/discomfort in my descending colon and never goes away. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.
This is a serious question. Those of you who bring up gay sex and hamsters will be promptly reported.

i have heard much about cleansing the colon, especially if you have a family or personal history with polyps or cancer in the colon. it is also supposed to help with weight loss… does anyone know about the effects and side effects of this process? i’d be particularly interested in health care professionals and doctors answers if your out there….

thanks

besides occult (invisible) blood, i have heard of colon cancer and polyps causing bleeding, besides the other symptoms like diahrea and constipation and very thin stools like pencils…..i have also had a family member who had a polyp and bled ALOT in the toilet….supposeldy this is also the case with cancer but i was just wondering if most cases with this type of cancer bleed in that fashion, besides the tarry black sludge like stools that are also common….i was just wondering

This is a rare disease and the cysts are not polyps.

I had 3 small polyps removed about 5 years ago that were not cancerous I was wondering what the chances of them coming back and turning into cancer .I just dont want to go through the test again. My doc said colon cancer is rare so im not as worried but would like other oppions.
