I have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the doctors told me to be on a high fiber diet which worked at 1st and now has stopped working and then on Zelnorm which also worked at 1st but no longer works. Does any have any other recommendations? I have an appt with a natural medicine doctor next week.
She seems to get bloated a lot and she doesn’t have a bowel movement everyday. And when she does, they smell abnormally bad and I’m afraid her digestive tract may be backed up.
I want to put her on a high fiber diet to get it moving.
Any suggestions on some high fiber foods I can regularly implement or any child friendly ‘digestive tract cleansing’ supplements?
Thanks!
PS. Please only give suggestions other than "bring her to the doctor"
She is already going today. But I wanted to hear some first hand knowledge/suggestions from other moms and dads as well.
Thanks!
I have IBS and IBD (proctitis -constipation with 2-3 healthy bowel movements (BM) a week). I have not had a regular bowel moment in 4 months. I eat a high fiber diet, no caffine only water. I recently went almost 2 weeks without a BM. I took 2 Xstrength EXlax, metamucil, 2 enemas and one bottle of Fleet and nothing came out. I had xrays and it showed that I have massive constipation. I am seeing a specialist next month.
I have been on a 3 month colon cleansing system for two weeks, taking 3 240mg stool softeners per day and still nothing. I have developed lower back pain and find it hard to stand straight or lay flat. I am always hungry and no matter how much sleep I get I am always tired. I have a 4-5 gumball pellets BM every couple of days – I think there is no room for the food I eat so some has to come out. Also have rectal bleeding – no hemmoroids. I have lost a couple of pounds. Bad stomach cramps.
Any suggestions on what may be wrong or what I can do?
I have a gastroenterologist who recommended me to take Miralax & Suppositories everyday for the next 3-6 months. This will be too harsh on my body. I am a diabetic and I have severe high blood pressure. I have been advised to start on a body cleansing program because the constant fatigue is the main problem. OTC Regimen seems to work for a little while and then I start getting constipated again or I will have to discontinue because I get dehydrated from diarrhea. I have been advised by the gastroenterologist to be on a high fiber diet. I have been advised to eat only fruits and vegetables from the internal medicine physician. No breads, No Sugar, No Salt, No Caffeine. No Fried Foods. No Excuses. I have been advised to start on a vegetarian meal program that is designed for diabetics.
So, I am searching for a high fiber diabetic vegetarian meal program and complete body cleansing program for overall health. I am suppose to eat 6 small meals a day. I have digestive problems so it is hard for me to take multivitamins. I would eat lot of high fiber foods and would get constant bloating and gas discomfort. So, I would need to be on a cleansing program and drink plenty of water only with every meal to eliminate the symptoms.
So, I was told if I could afford it; they would recommend me to start on the DrNatura Colonix Program for the first three months along with the Digestaid and Flora Protect Probiotics for the first three months to start regulating the bowel movements and eliminate the toxins that causes fatigue. It would cost me 3.24 for the three month program but do you think that it would be worth a try?
I have asthma, severe high blood pressure, diabetes, acid reflux disease, and internal hemorrhoids & external hemorrhoids. I have been breaking out in so many rashes lately but they said that the body acid and diabetes may be the cause of this and a body cleansing program and vegetarian diet should eliminate this program within the first two weeks.
It is amazing what the body goes through. I have three children and I would not want them to lose their mother over something that can be avoided. A body cleansing regimen is important for any woman or man and that is why I had to have the colonoscopy. I am searching for a healthy lifestyle and I am not good at staying on a diet program with cleansing out the body first. The body cleansing program is suppose to be a jumpstart towards a healthy lifestyle. It is suppose to take the taste of junk foods away and that is what I need. A program to coach me the right way to maintain a healthy lifestyle and remain on this healthier lifestyle for the rest of my life.
I found this quote
"A high fiber diet will help by redirecting fat soluble metabolites to the colon rather than bladder. "THC is eliminated primarily in the stool via bile acids. Both EMIT and RIA detect a secondary metabolite which is reabsorbed from the intestines. Thus a person with a high fiber diet will excrete a majority of THC [metabolites] in the stool" (anon1). A fiber-based laxitive will also help by binding bile-acids. Use caution. Fiber laxitives can alter one’s bowel schedule and lead to dependancy."
Is it true?
I was heavily constipated as a child, and even now sometimes struggle to have one bowel movement a week. I’ve started to have more fibre, fresh veg and loads of water, but I’m worried there’s a ‘backlog’ of excrement inside me, possibly years old, that will stay and poison me unless i flush it out.
Do I need my colon cleansed or will a high fiber diet alone clean my insides? Do home cleansing kits work? What about colonic irrigation? Whats the best option for someone with a low budget?
i’m also kind of sceptical the craze of colon cleansing is just a huge con. i don’t think one of the leading brands, blessedherbs, has even been approved by the FDA.
I am 30, almost 31 years old, male and overweight. I have been having some pain in my right side around my gallbladder area for about 4 weeks. My doctor did blood work which ruled out ulcers, an ultrasound which ruled out gall stones and an x-ray which said that I am constipated. However, I have a bowel movement almost every day or at least every other day. I don’t struggle to go and have an amount which I’d say is regular and healthy. The x-ray shows that there is some stool that is stuck in my colon and they recommended a high fiber diet and a laxative if necessary. I plan to do what the doctor said, but if she is wrong about the constipation could it be colon cancer? On an x-ray can colon cancer ever be mistaken for constipation? I always thought the risk of colon cancer didn’t start until you were in your 50′s or so. Am I too young to get colon cancer?
I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist in a few weeks, but until then I’d like some peace of mind.
I just completed a colon cleanse with a kit from Blessed Herbs with laxative herbs, psyillium and powdered bentonite. My skin has been cleared and I feel more energetic after the cleanse and now, I’ve also been eating better with high fiber diet and lots of clean water.
I was quite regular prior to the cleanse with 1 bowel movement every day. After the cleanse, I am regular but frequently get 2-3 BMs a day. Problem is, I cannot understand why my stools are now so much thinner, but long. Prior to the cleanse, I had fatter, shorter stools.
Is there a chance that the psyllium/bentonite got stuck in my intestines or some other obstruction? I’ve also done a couple of enemas but my stools remain thin ( around 3/4 inch ) and long. I’m not constipated and I pass stools easily.
Will somebody who has knowledge of what’s going on put my mind at ease? I really don’t know how to deal with it if I got something stuck in my colon.

what are good laxitives. what time do you take i? do you have to do a fast? give me all the details that i have to do to get my colon clean. and also i already eat a high fiber diet and drink lots and lots of water.
My hubby just had colon surgery and Doc says he has to eat a low fiber diet for 2 weeks. I know that raw fruits and vegies are a no-no. Only canned and cooked. What kind of meats, cereals, breads, etc can he eat? Can he have eggbeaters? He has high cholesterol, and doesn’t like alot of sugar. He needs variety. I’m also concerned that he gets proper nutrition until he can go back to his regular high fiber diet. Any suggestions, ideas, or sites where I can get recipes would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hello,
A little over two weeks ago, I experienced really weird and very painful pain in my upper abdomen. It felt like a wave of pain was going from one side to the other. I never had that before, so I ended up spending a day at the hospital. They made me do blood tests, since they suspected I might have had a case of appendicitis. I also did a few chest x-rays, I believe in order to check if there was any obstruction in my intestine, because they also suspected constipation. None of them turned out positive for any of those signs. The general surgeon could not understand what it was. Whenever he pressed on at the top in between my lower ribs, I would be in a lot of pain. In the end, he told me that I might just have constipation, and to just improve my diet with lots of fiber and liquids.
I began doing so, but then whenever I go to the washroom now, I have rectal bleeding with pain. I find it on the toilet paper and in the bowl as well. I’ve been doing some readings, and what I’ve found was that I might have a case of hemorrhoids, which would explain the bleeding. I’ve been trying to keep up a high fiber diet, although I must admit I might not be taking the 35g recommendation. I will start taking Metamucil, so hopefully that’ll help a bit.
Looking back at what I had, I’m really worried that I might have a type of colon cancer. Is it possible with the symptoms I had/have? Has anyone else experienced this and found any answers?
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help,
Thank you
