I just had a normal pap, and normal blood work, but my hpv was positive. im 33 year old female, no family history of colon/rectal/anal cancer. I dont drink, smoke or do drugs. I have been a vegetarian for years. I sometimes have this quick sharp pain in my rectum, it only lasts for a second, but sometimes it can go on and off all day, especially when i have my period. does the hpv positive reading mean i may have rectal or anal cancer??

I am 15 years old and I don’t have a family history of cancer but i was worried about whether i have colorectal cancer.So what are my chances of getting colorectal cancer?

I have no family history of cancers at all except an aunt who died from breast cancer. But, I have had ulcerative colitis for around 5-6 years in the entire colon (and 1 yrbefore that on the left side only). I am going to start my yearly screenings in a week..(full colonoscopy with biopsies) apparently because my risk of cancer increases after living with UC for that long.. should i be worried or are the chances still very slim? I ve been in remission for 5 years now but i read that the period in which the disease is in remission has no connection to the chances of getting cancer.. any thoughts?

I’m 23 years old, no family history of colon cancer, non smoker.

About a year ago I was very constipated and had trouble passing a larger stool. After, I developed what I though were hemorrhoids or a fissure. I would go to the bathroom and feel a very quick sharp pain followed by a tiny bit of blood on the tissue when I would wipe.

This happened on and off for quite some time but has not happened in the last few months.

About 3 weeks ago I started noticing my stools have been much looser than normal. The amount has not increased. I go once a day and it’s basically really soft and breaks into maybe 5-7 pieces in the water. They are usually soft but not that soft.

I went to the doctor. She did a rectal exam as well as a FOBT test (tested stool for blood). The FOBT was negative and my rectal exam checked out fine.

She said she though it might be a mild virus or IBS and is having me change my diet a little. I did but it hasn’t helped much. Although I’ve been very worried this past week.

I’v been reading so much into this. About people being misdiagnosed, the FOBT being wrong, people getting this cancer young. It’s really got me TERRIFIED.

Do you think this is cancer or not? I have no other symptoms.

I was reading recently that insurance companies are now using family history to calculate rates and even deny coverage where they can perceive a loss or bad investment. I believe most corporate employees are protected from such scrutiny and must be allowed to join group policies except where pre-existing conditions allow the insurance company to opt out. But, self-employed or employees of say a small private school may not he able to obtain reasonably priced coverage because their Mom’s dad had a heart attack, colon cancer, etc…

Yesterday when i went to the bathroom i had bright red blood on the toilet paper and a little blood in the water. I went another time later that night and the same thing happened but i had less blood. Could this be colon cancer? The stool was completely normal color so iv ruled out internal bleeding higher up the intestinal track but it still worries me. First off im 18 years old and have NO family history of cancer and have never had anything wrong with me before. Iv heard that a cause of this could be internal hemroids bursting. Can anyone confirm this. I am overweight and have had hemroids before so im really hoping that this is it. I also dont have a strict diet so not much Fiber. My stool is usually hard. Im going to eat foods with fiber and drink alot of water and update tommarow. Also i really really dont want to have to deal with a doctor at all. So please ease my mind thanks.
Ok so i woke up this morning and went and still had blood. Hope thats normal. If it is a Hemoroid or fissur any idea on how long it would take to stop bleeding? Thanks for the posts so far. You’ve been really helpfull, and made me feel a lot better.

My primary care doctor has referred me to a gastroenterologist for evaluation for a possible malabsorption problem. My only symptoms are unexplained weight loss of a little over 10% of my body weight over the past 6 months and somewhat frequent bowel movements (not diarrhea, just ‘going’ 3-4X/day, almost always in the morning). My appetite, diet and activity level remain unchanged and I feel fine. I’m too skinny as it is and very worried about losing any more weight.

For the record, I’m a 43-year-old female in otherwise good health; I do have a family history of pancreatic, prostate and colon cancer.

Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? If so, what was your diagnosis?

My dad had it back in the 70′s and ended up with cancer but it was also bloody- but he only died soon after- he caught it too late.

my stool was tested for diseases etc.. and nothing

they checked my diet for everything- lactose, celiacs, and artifical sweeteners, etc…

the dr said that due to my family history- grandfather died from colon cancer also

that it’s a high possibilty and i am in the age range they were when they died

I changed my diet some and nothing- the dr said that since it has only been 1 month -maybe why it’s not bloody

anyway i am having a colonoscopy on monday

i know my father and grandfather had bloody diarrhea but had colon cancer a long time before they knew- so

do any of you know of others that had diarrhea during colon cancer

i sure hope the colonoscopy shows them something (other than cancer) so i know what is wrong

dr said if it is cancer i may have caught it in early enough stages to do soemthing about it- that would be great

First off I’m 23 years old. No family history of Colon Cancer.

A year ago I got really constipated. I had a really tough time passing my stool. I finally passed it and immediately after I developed what I thought were hemorrhoids. I went to the doctor yesterday. I told her all my symptoms. She did a rectal exam as well as tested my stool for blood. She said the rectal exam looked good. No signs of any hemorrhoids or anything. My stool also tested negative for blood.

She said she didn’t suspect I had cancer at all and told me other things that it might be. At this point i’m doing the BRAT diet to see what happens.

Do you think this could still be colon cancer. I have really bad anxiety so I’m naturally worried.

MY symptoms:
6 mos ago i had ankle surgery. I was off my feet and on my butt for 2 straight mos with no walking. While recovering from the injury, i began to diet. Hardcore diet. I was over 400 pounds. I’ve lost 95 of them in the last 6 mos.
Within a couple weeks of starting the diet and being on my butt…. i had one single episode of fecal incontinance. After this, i began to have constipation, or diareeha, and blood on the toilet paper (possibly from strain)….or possibly from something worse. I also began to have a dull pain at the lower area of my tailbone, which becomes significant when im sitting.
The bleeding went away after about 2 mos, but the pain in the tailbone has not. I still have diareeah sometimes. Mostly after long periods of sitting, which also brings on the tailbone pain.
I went to the doctor a month ago. She thinks that it has to do with complications from my diet / surgery recovery and lack of physical activity. She thinks that the fact that im not even 30 yrs old, dont have a family history of cancer, and the coincidence that im on a huge diet and recovering from surgery ALL PLAY TOO MUCH A ROLE, to really consider colon cancer. But….she ordered me to have a fecal-blood-occult test, anyways.
It came back fine. She thinks im ok. But….why has the tailbone pain continued, and why do i sometimes still have diareeah after periods of painful sitting? Could i have cancer? Im pretty worried. Any thoughts or info ?

I’m 16 and have constant stomach problems. It seems to go through a cycle of intense stomach pain when I eat ANYTHING to long periods of constipation and trouble passing gas. I have family history with both irritable bowel syndrome and celiac disease. I drink a half a gallon of water each day and really have any soda. I just want to know what I have and what I can do.

I have recently been diagnosed with postviral gastroparesis. Although I am tolerating the low fat low diet fairly well (oh how I miss fresh veggies and loathe baby food!), I have developed a strong tendency towards constipation. I believe this is due to the "low fiber" part of my diet. I am a little concerned about this because of a strong family history of colon cancer, and fiber is said to help prevent it… What can I eat or take to relieve the constipation?

I am a 46-yo female with the following symptoms: Unintended weight loss (20% of body weight over 6 months), night sweats, easy bruising, fatigue, persistent diarrhea, low-grade fever that comes and goes, very susceptible to viruses. There is a family history of colon cancer. I had a colonoscopy 14 months ago that was fine.

My doctor ordered blood work which came back normal, a chest xray that I don’t have the results of yet, and a CT scan of the abdomen. The CT findings and conclusion were as follows:

In findings: "There is a segment of the distal ascending colon showing poor luminal distensionand possible soft tissue wall thickening."
Conclusion: "There is a potentially abnormal segment of the ascending colon just proximal to the hepatic flexure. A malignant mass is the primary concern, although a focal area of colitis must also be considered."

As a result, my doctor has referred me to a colorectal surgeon, but I have been waiting for a week to hear back on an appointment.

Can anyone help me interpret the CT findings/conclusion?

For about a year and a half i have experienced slight discomfort when defecating. At first i thought it was simply piles, however it has never really gone away. Although it has been relatively unnoticeable up until about a month ago when i noticed more discomfort and also blood in the stool, and persistent diarrhea. It seems that colorectal cancer in people my age is extremely rare, and i have no family history of cancer at all, however i am unsure what the problem is. I plan to see my doctor in the near future, but i would like to know if anyone has any idea what the problem may be, and if i should be worried that it may be colorectal cancer? Any advice will be much appreciated

Is it possible for 15 year old boy to have colorectal cancer knowing that he has no family history of colorectal cancer but used to eat plenty of junk foods? Thanks

I’m 14 year old male, and I am not obese or anything.
Note that I have minor IBS symptoms but I’m not sure about this one.
When I press on the lower right part of my abdomen (about 3 inches above your right leg) I feel some sort of thing when I push on it and it makes a little vibration in my abdomen, It’s not a lump but it feels like muscle and I think it is my appendix.

Does anyone else get that feeling of when you push down on the right part of the lower abdomen it makes a minor vibration in your stomach, Or is it just me with IBS.
I went to my GP and from my description of symptoms he said it was IBS but I haven’t been tested for it. I think it is the start of the ascending colon as it feels like it.
You have to go right deep as I am pretty skinny to.

I doubt this is colon cancer as I have no family history of it, I don’t smoke or drink, I’m not sure if I have any polyps either.

I also have a very very very minor stomach ache, you barely notice it.

When I DID have insurance, I asked for one and my doctor said no. She wouldn’t even examine my colon maybe because I don’t fall into the stereotype of the older male patient who get VIP treatment.

Anyway, lately I see little drops of blood from my behind and things just don’t feel right back there, plus I have a family history of colon cancer. I currently no longer have health insurance. Can I just walk into a hospital and request a colon cleanse and if so how much out of pocket would it cost?

I have no symptoms of illness, am pretty healthy; but what I expected to be a routine colonoscopy actually found many polyps and prompted Dr. to make a referral for labs. Dr’s report said "The large number and variety of polyps is unusual." and that "genetic testing is indicated." Dr. had me back twice more, each time looked around in my colon and removed many polyps. The three colonoscopy procedures during past four months have found about 50 polyps, mostly pre-cancerous "adenomas" – tubular and tubulovillous per pathology reports; but no dysplasia nor carcinoma at present). Most polyps found have been fairly small, a couple 1.0-1.5 cm. Still some small
sessile polyps remain at present. After 3rd colonoscopy Dr. counseled that consideration should be given to genetic testing, "and ultimately colectomy may be needed." Dr. referred me for "FAPKM" genetic testing, they drew my blood and have sent it off to Mayo Clinic. This "FAPKM" testing seems pretty specialized – they are looking for a specific genetic mutation that might inhibit my colon from suppressing polyps. I have no known family history of colon polyps, no family history of colorectal cancer. Everything I’ve read seems
to indicate that a colon with 50 pre-cancerous polyps is serious,
whether the cause is genetic or "sporadic," and leaves me with the impression the colectomy option may (eventually?) be more likely needed than not.
While I await test results I wonder, can anyone here explain likely range of outcomes for someone with my current condition?

I just found out most of the people on my dads side died from it by the time they were older like 55 at what age should someone with a family history get checked. Its probably gross but what do they do to check you. I hear they give you diarreha then put a scope in your rectum are you asleep? will it hurt? will the people that give the test know how humiliated you will be?

Would like to know if I am a candidate for colonoscopy. I am 59yrs, F, no family history of cancer, non smoker. Any recommendation?

ok here is the deal I’m 23 yeas old and in pretty good health overweight and I battle mental health disorders and Have OCD. I’m worried that I have something wrong with my colon and I mean I know I do I have bile salts diahreea no family history of colon cancer and a family history of Poplps but not untill later in life in the 50 and 60s. I keep thinking that I see red in my stool and it freaks me out. I mean only if I dont take my questran otherwise the stool is formed and everything. I have seen two medical doctors that say its just bile salt diahreea and a surgeron who says proforming a colonscopy is more dangous then not with not having any other smphotms. I just want to know what someone else thinks am I freaking out to much. I so feel that a 23 yeas old shouldnt have to worry about something like this and oh yeah I did have my gallbladder out thats how I got the bile salt diahreea. Someone please help me ease my mind

sometimes I get a quick sharp or dull feeling in my rectum. I use feeling, instead of pain, because it doesnt really hurt, it isnt unbareable pain…it happens for a second and then goes away. i’ve been experiencing it for about a month. I think i have experienced it in the pastm but never paid attention to it. I am a 33 yr old female, in good health and have been a vegetarian for 17 years, if that matters at all. i have never seen blood in my stools, can this feeling mean that i have colon or rectal cancer?
