We have a female horse who is about 21-25 years old. Thursday we realized that she was sick, and called the vet who said she had the flu. We gave her medicine as instructed (banamine) and walked her that night, but she was no better on Friday. We took her to the vet Friday afternoon, and the vet determined she had colic instead of the flu. He gave her oil to help her bowels move, but still even by today (Monday) nothing has changed. He has told us that she will either use the bathroom, or something inside her will rupture. He has taken X-rays and said that she is blocked up beyond her colon so doing an enema on her won’t help anything. Her intestines are NOT twisted, and the vet is unable to determine why nothing is passing through. Does anyone know ANYTHING we can do to help relieve her or fix this problem without putting her to sleep. It seems that there has to be another way of cleaning out her system than just using oil as a laxative. PLEASE HELP!
The vet who cares for her treats ONLY large animals like horses. She has been in his care since Friday in a barn where he treats his patients. He put her on IV for the first time this morning, but gave her water with her oil prior to today. Also, our horse exhibits NO pain. She isn’t pawing, biting, or anything like that. She just stands around with her head dropped. She won’t eat or drink. Does this not sound like colic?
I realize I’ve asked this question ONE other time. I’m trying to find out as much information as possible to help my horse. Please try to show a little compassion.

I have been experiencing rectal bleeding for about 2 months now. I know, I know, I should’ve seen a doctor by now. BUT, it got better in between the two months. Sometimes my stool is soft enough that it doesnt cause any bleeding, but other times it is really hard. Its always just a little blood in the toilet (making the water pink) or some on the tissue when i wipe but just the other day it was way more than before. I have the sensation to go to the restroom but am scared of passing hard stool and pain. I was wondering what can I do (at home) to help ease the pain. I took a laxative once before (correctol) and it made me vomit. Can I take a enema? I need fast relief ASAP… Thanks in advance

My cat has problems with his lower colon and gets constipated to the point where he needs an enema about twice a year. Long story short-his doctor recommends lactalose and prescription diet w/d, and I am fine with administering the lactalose but HATE prescription diet foods-god awful foods and way too expensive for what you get. Is there anything that anyone can recommend that I supplement that will help keep his poop flowing well without recommending terrible dog foods (ie grocery store foods). He is currently on EVO.

On Wednesday the 8th I used the bathroom and had a loose stool, upon wiping I had quite a bit of blood on the tissue paper. I was able to go once more the next morning, again with loose stool and blood. Now I can’t pass my bowels whatsoever. I have gone to a gastronomy center and now I have a colonoscopy in 3 days. I’ve had x-rays ruling out obstruction but they see a lot of stool that needs out. Only problem is I cannot pass any stool which I’m told I need to do so for a good exam. I have been on Miralax for 4 days with no luck, tried a small enema with no luck and have been on a liquid diet as well. What do I do? I am going to be starting my prep (magnesium citrate) as well as surprep on monday. I am hoping these work but if not what do I do? Will they perform something to cleanse me? HELP?
I also want to mention that I have had very slight BM maybe once a day but I know I still have a lot of stool in me. I still get hungry and pass gas…Thanks for the replys/answers. I never wanted to take a crap so bad in my life!!!

when the doctor sticks something up your rectum and shoots some type of fluid to clean your intestines…its not an Enema nor a Colonoscopy..

i just herd it in a conversation today but can’t remember the name…

From what I’ve heard in the past, an enema is only capable of cleansing the large intestine, but if enough water is used, is it possible to completely rid the small intestine of everything as well?

I’m on a detox diet to clean out my colon because I’m full of sh!t.
What foods can and can’t be consumed? Apparently wholegrains can be consumed but what about wholemeal?
Is a detox diet a good idea or am I best off getting an enema?

What will they come up with next? What is with all this garbage about Colonics. All they are is a glorified enema. I can’t imagine doing something like that voluntarily unless I was extremely constipated. An enema will clean out your colon for sure, but what are the long term effects? I just don’t see where these things are so supposedly "beneficial to your health".

I was just watching this paid program about the dual action cleanse about how great it works to clean your colon. Now I don’t wanna be disgusting I’m serious about this so please no stupid replies, my husband has this thing about releasing his bowels every day. And if he don’t he’s either drinking 2 cups of prune juice or taking an enema Because he doesn’t like that feeling of tiredness and bloating. Does anyone have an idea if this stuff really works. Cause I don’t want him to be dependent on enemas. And

Ok so i had been constipated for weeks n weeks. LIke id go to br but i still felt like it was more and there was. SO today i got an enema and went to bathroom afterwards, felt good for a while but its like there is still more in my stomach lots more and i took some colon cleanse pills at like 6:30 and its 2:15 now and all i have is gas and havent really had a big bowel movement. Im scared, what should i do? i dont want to end up dying over something like this should i go to hospital tomorrow, if theres not a big one tomorrow?

Can anyone tell me what an enema is? Someone told me it cleans out your intestines and cleanses the toxins out or something and that everyone should get one every now and then. If so where can you buy one?

Is there some less invasive/disgusting and more holistic approach to clean out one’s intestines other than an enema?

Eating fiber and staying hydrated is great, but I’ve read that most "healthy" people have dried matter that is harmful to their health.
is there like a supplement/herbal pill?

Such as herbs, internal herbal injections (inserted into vagina or as an enema, exercises, alternative treatments..

Also what can help severe incontinence. I wake up several times a night to go to the restroom and it is disturbing my sleep.

I don’t want to do an enema. What oral cleanse can I take to clean out my intestines real good and will do it quickly? Thanks.

In the continuing coroner’s inquiry into the death of Penelope Dingle (who was encouraged by her husband and her homeopath not to use conventional medicine after she was diagnosed with bowel cancer, resulting in a tortuous death without painkillers), it is revealed that her homeopath recommended a ‘cruel’ enema (aka ‘colon cleanse’) that if taken would likely have split her bowl and resulted in death by massive infection, despite the enema containing relatively innocuous substances such as olive oil and soap:

"……a letter written by Mrs Dingle to Ms Scrayen (her homeopath) after her emergency surgery read: "Had I performed the enema you suggested the surgeon said it would have split my bowel and it was unlikely that I would have survived the massive infection that would have ensued."

Mrs Dingle also wrote a diary entry saying the surgeon had told her the use of those so-called lubricants "was just plain cruel"."

I’m not a colorectal surgeon so I don’t know how this would occur, but this seems like a very dangerous procedure that people shouldn’t be performing on themselves. If you use this sort of thing, or recommend it, are you aware of the risks involved? How can someone reduce the risk of such a severe injury?
Lightning: Interesting point at first but then it degenerated into a Red Herring Fallacy topped off with an Ad Hominem, quite poor.
(I’m perfectly happy with my janitorial duties, thanks for your concern).
Pog: It’s not my opinion, it’s that of the colorectal surgeon’s. That’s why I used the word ‘could’ in my question. If there are any other basic bits of English grammar you are struggling with, just let me know.

Lightning: I’m going to have to agree with Rhianna and Skep, it doesn’t matter how long the conversation goes on for, you just get stuck on a point (normally a fallacy) and can’t get over it. Personally I think it’s because you reach the end of your knowledge base. If ‘inability to continue a debate = spanner in the works’ then yes, that’s what you are.

I am 19 weeks tomorrow and i know that im far from giving birth, but due to all these horrendous stories ive heard about women pooping during birth. I know its natural and all. But i don’t want to have to smell my own crap while im giving birth. So how can i prevent pooping during birth. Other than having an enema done, a natural way of cleansing my bowels before i give birth?

I have been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis and suspect it is accompanied by irritable bowel syndrome. I have tried laxatives and enema for the IBS, but afterwards I still feel constipated, although I do evacuate…The IC and IBS often coincide and are worst during ovulation in my monthly cycle, so I think my main culprit is hormonal fluctuations…Does anybody have suggestions on this one?

Hi, I am eleven years old and have a pretty good health history and I don’t get sick very often. I didn’t pass bowel movements for a week or so, and I told my mom. A day later I finally went just a tiny bit. It’s been three days since I’ve passed a bowel. Finally, just now, I went. This is gross, but I couldn’t go so I stuck toilet paper on my finger and put it up my anus. I took it out and there was a big amount of blood. I repeated the process and showed my mom. Then, I went a couple pebbles of bowel movement, and there was blood. She said she wasn’t too concerned. I kept trying to go and it was painful. I don’t think I got all my bowel out, but now my anus feels really swollen and it really hurts. It almost feels like it’s "tight." There was also some dark mucus in my bowel. I didn’t eat anything out of the ordinary. I looked at my butt on the inside in the mirror and there are three giant red swollen lumps inside. My mom said they are hemorrhoids and was puzzled because she never heard of a child getting one. She bought me some cream but i’m still on the toilet for hours and hours in bouts of pain. I have anxiety and don’t feel comfortable with a doctor looking in there. I got pepto bismol, stool softener medicine, cream, and an enema. I used the enema and it really stung. All that came out was the enema, and it looked like my butt was urinating. It also burned. I just went and a gallon of mucus came out. What should I do? Could it be something other then a hemorrhoid? What could it be?

Has anyone out there tried colon cleansing and what did you think of it? My friend is trying to convince me to do it with her, but I think it is a scam. All the websites about it want you to pay hundreds of dollars for their colon cleansing "systems." Does anyone know the facts about whether or not this really does anything to remove toxins? Please include links if you have them, thanks!
Okay, I am not just talking about an enema – I’ve had those before. These systems include specialized foods and drinks, and you don’t eat anything else for a certain amount of time. I don’t even think they include enemas.

Is there a way to cleanse or at least have MUCH better bowel movements without the use of doctors, special pills and wierd teas?

I mean like any normal foods/drinks or even positions….I ask this because lately I have been having sluggish bowels and constipation, but don’t want to use any medicine/pills/clinical procedures and just stick to a natural way.
No Scanner I didn’t know…what’s wrong with using straight water with an enema

I have heard a person can be carrying around 20lbs of unnecessary weight and that it can be eliminated by a colon cleansing. Is it the same thing as an enema?
i don’t mean to lose body fat, I mean it is just crap you don’t need. I was refering to weight as a way to measure the extra crap.

which is best a colon cleanse or colon hydrotherapy?
and how is hydrotherapy different from an enema?
doesnt a diet tea do almost the same? does anyone know by experience? I do know that a colon cleanse and/or colon hydrotherapy are suppose to clean your system from waste but which is best? I would like to try it out but would like some more info if anyone out there has tried it would help thanks. also I have tried diet teas which make me go to the bathroom a few hours later (I dont go often) but dont think it does what the cleaners can. thanks for any info

I keep hearing that the colon stores ‘plaque’ and old fecal matter, toxins etc. on the intestinal walls that can stay there for years. Is it true? Is it a good idea to do a colon cleanse, water or juice fast or enema to clean it out? Please be descriptive and don’t just say yes or no. Thanks for your help!
I’ve never been so grateful for an answer before. Thank you SO much to all the Doctors that contributed and saved me from an unpleasant and costly experience! I can’t choose a best answer because all three of you gave comprehensive answers. I guess I’ll just put it to a vote and give you all thumbs up! Thanks again!
