I have diverticulitis, whereby the colon becomes inflamed and cause general pain, bloating, constipation and gas. I am on a very particular diet, which I don’t violate, and the usual over-the-counter products for haven’t worked. At least none I’ve found.
Any links or other dircections would be greatly appreciated.
Yesterday I went to see my doctor and she examined me and said I had some blood in my rectal area. She said to go to the ER if it gets any worse. It hasn’t gotten worse but its been bleeding for two days and I’m kind of concerned. Its bleeding even when I am not having a bowel movement. So my first question is should I go to the ER?
Also I wanted to share with you my symptoms. I have had alternating constipation and diarrhea for the past month and small bleeding after bowel movements. and like i mentioned above, for the past 2 days it hasn’t stopped bleeding. Could anyone maybe help me out on what this might be? I am also only 18 years old if that makes a difference. I am not in any type of pain.
I am not normally constipated, but as a result of a bad tooth I was not eating, and I was on a combination of antibiotics and pain killer (vicodin). I was severely constipated, so much so that after having not been able to go for about a week I did a saline enema. This ended the constipation; however, it lead to what has not become a very big nuisance and worry, rectal bleeding.
I have been bleeding 2-3 tablespoons of blood out of my bum 3-5 times a day for the last week. I called my family doctor, and he told me to go to the Emergency Department. There, they did an obstruction series of x-rays on my lower bowel (and found no blockage) also some blood work to see if my hemoglobin was OK (which it was), and a rectal exam in which he said he felt a "dry" inner hemorrhoid, and an amount of blood came out when he did the rectal exam. He said to schedule an appt. with my fam. doc. to set up a colonoscopy. It was probably a hemorrhoid from the constipation, but he thought it best I was checked out with the colonoscopy.
So, today is day 7 of this conundrum. I am tired, and tired of bleeding. It is also very worrisome. So, should I go back to the Emergency Dept. (being that it is sat. and my doctors office is closed)? Or, should I wait it out a few more days until my doc’s office is open?
So for the last couple of months I have been experiencing digestion problems. At first I suffered from constipation along with excessive bloating. It eventually went away after taking natural colon cleansing pills. Everything was going fine I felt like it my stomach was slowly regulating. I started taking vitamins as well and after a week or so stopped because I felt pains in my stomach. I had never experienced any trouble with vitamins and I found them easy to take. I took them with food but after a week or I started having stomach pains and my stomach was bloated and hard. I stopped taking any kind of pill and it helped, but my stomach would still hurt and bloat up even if I hadn’t eaten. Up to now I can not take my multivitamins or any kind of pills because it bloats up the lower part of my stomach and I will experience pain and constipation. Even when I don’t take any pills I wake up with the lower part of my stomach bloated until I have a bowel movement, and depending on the size of it that’s how much the my bloating will go away. I eat healthy and don’t eat greasy foods. I went to the doctor and they told me I might have IBS but that my symptoms are a little uncommon for IBS. They gave me medication and since its pills my stomach bloats up. Can anyone help me? I feel like something else is wrong and it has to do more with my digestion and my intestines.
My dad has no health insurance because he was recently fired from his job. He has always had constipation and lethargy due to a poor diet, lack of exercise, and lack of sleep. The other day he told me that he had a strange sense of fullness. We had dinner at 8 pm at night and he told me he was still full at 2 pm the next day. His exact words after dinner were "I could have eaten more" and then the next day he says "I feel really full for some reason". I thought it was strange and then on in the week he told me he had a bloody stool. He is trying to calm himself down by saying it is just hemorroids but I think it could be early stages of colon cancer and he is deluding himself. Without health insurance, what should he do?
This is what happened.
I started taking prenatals and that week my constipation was very bad. I didnt poop for like 4 days and stupidly didnt drink enough water too.
I also was using the ipad on my tummy.I have a weak left side due to past ovarian cysts so I do get on and off pain in the left side sometimes.
I was able to poop after the 4 days but everytime I went I felt like I hadnt finished and the incomplete feeling.
Now I feel rectal pressure all the time, cannot sleep because of it and feel like I have to poop always.
I also feel tired and feverish.
I have been sleeping around 2-3 o clock since some days.
I will go to the doc soon but PLEASE tell me whats going on with me?
I have IBS and IBD (proctitis -constipation with 2-3 healthy bowel movements (BM) a week). I have not had a regular bowel moment in 4 months. I eat a high fiber diet, no caffine only water. I recently went almost 2 weeks without a BM. I took 2 Xstrength EXlax, metamucil, 2 enemas and one bottle of Fleet and nothing came out. I had xrays and it showed that I have massive constipation. I am seeing a specialist next month.
I have been on a 3 month colon cleansing system for two weeks, taking 3 240mg stool softeners per day and still nothing. I have developed lower back pain and find it hard to stand straight or lay flat. I am always hungry and no matter how much sleep I get I am always tired. I have a 4-5 gumball pellets BM every couple of days – I think there is no room for the food I eat so some has to come out. Also have rectal bleeding – no hemmoroids. I have lost a couple of pounds. Bad stomach cramps.
Any suggestions on what may be wrong or what I can do?
I have been having pain and swelling in my rectum for a little while now. I’m pregnant and I had the same problem during my first pregnancy too, but then it went away after I delivered and now it’s back. I’ve seen a gastroenterologist and he did a rectal exam and said it felt like a rectal fissure and prescribed a hydrocortisone/lidocaine cream. From what I’ve heard, the lidocaine creams usually work very well in treating the pain associated with rectal fissures, but it doesn’t do anything.
I’m starting to question whether it’s a fissure based on the way it presents. The pain is on the inside on the left a few inches up. I know there is an internal hemorrhoid around the location where the pain is originating because I can feel it.
It doesn’t hurt at all when I have a bowel movement and there is no pain for like 10 or so minutes afterward then the swelling starts to build up until there is a lot of pain and swelling inside. The swelling and pain lasts several hours. The lidocaine/hydrocortisone cream doesn’t even touch the pain and swelling. From what I’ve heard fissures hurt when you have a bowel movement, which is making me question whether it’s that or not.
Even though I am pregnant I haven’t had any constipation. I’ve tried miralax and it makes my stools very very soft, which helps, but still triggers the swelling. I think the swelling is the major cause of the pain. I’m just not sure what’s causing the swelling. Is this consistent with a rectal fissure or something else?
I’m a 42 yr. old female. I am currently experiencing moderate butt pains. Some burning. I have had no changes in diet, no changes in bathroom (constipation or diarrhea), no blood in my stool. The discomfort is somewhat persistant although it doesn’t interfere at all with sleeping.
I have used Prep H with not a lot of relief. I have taken Aleve but that doesn’t seem to work either.
I have no troubles at using the restoom. I have increased my intake of fiber so, of course, I have extra gas.
I thought if it was hemorroids, that Prep H or Aleve would help.
Please, serious answers only. I really want to know.
Hi, I am 19 years old and I am having some weird things going on. a little over a year ago I was really struggling with constipation and I began having blood in my stool quite often. One night I lost so much blood I was rushed to the doctor and had exams done and they said they couldnt tell me anything without a colonoscopy. So I got one done and after all the blood tests and that they told me I had IBS and I had because of my constipation I got backed up enough to rupture some blood vessels. But, they said it was nothing to really worry about if I did the diet they gave me and I had for a while. After I got off it I was still doing ok. Then suddenly 2 nights ago something strange happened. I passed gass and tons of blood came out. It stopped pretty quickly but it came with no bowl movement or anything. It was bright red though so I dont know that I should be concerned. I was having lots of stomache aches that day and I might have ruptured another vessel. But then the next day, when I pushed on my side, I felt very sharp pains and I felt small lymphnodes. The pain was not only sharp when they were touched but it lasted for a min or 2 after I touched them. Theres about 3 right now. Then today I felt the same pain right under my right rib in my back. I have no clue if thats all related. I know someone that felt lumps in her stomach and was diagnosed with cancer. I want to know, if #1 could i get colon cancer so quickly even after all the blood test and scans I had done about a year ago? #2 are lumps part of colon cancer? #could i just have swollen lymphnodes and its no big deal? #3 could I have something else wrong with me thats not related to my colon. can blood be a sign of something else? Also, this pain I explained being on those spots, I have a similar pain all over my body, mostly the fatty places on my arms and legs. if i push on then i experience a sharp pain that feel like i got a bruise. but those pains are not as bad as on my stomache and back. anywyas if someone could anser my questions i numbered that would be great. we dont really have to money right now to go to the doctor and hear its nothing. so. help would be apprectiated.

this started about a month ago i was having regular large bowel movements then over night I have had grape size only once a week if im lucky and only like 3 droppings (sorry for being graffic) but I went to the er they said I was constipated and to take a laxitive i took it i had a few bowel movements and now its a week later I had to use a sapository and here where 3 grape sizes again. I have been having nausea and vomiting off and on they said its from the constipation. but I was wondering could it be else like a inst. bloackage the only thing i dont understand is that it literally happened with in a week…. please so smart answers and i have a doc appt next week so dont suggest that because I already know what I have to do but i would like to know what I could be looking at
please and thank you =)
Both of my grandfathers had colon cancer; one died from it and one would have if his respiratory issues didn’t take over first. My mom, age 50, jus went for her check up and had polyps removed.
My question is should i be checked out? I do have intermittent periods of loose stools and constipation however i eat a very crappy diet and I’ve always accounted it to that. Advice?
MY symptoms:
6 mos ago i had ankle surgery. I was off my feet and on my butt for 2 straight mos with no walking. While recovering from the injury, i began to diet. Hardcore diet. I was over 400 pounds. I’ve lost 95 of them in the last 6 mos.
Within a couple weeks of starting the diet and being on my butt…. i had one single episode of fecal incontinance. After this, i began to have constipation, or diareeha, and blood on the toilet paper (possibly from strain)….or possibly from something worse. I also began to have a dull pain at the lower area of my tailbone, which becomes significant when im sitting.
The bleeding went away after about 2 mos, but the pain in the tailbone has not. I still have diareeah sometimes. Mostly after long periods of sitting, which also brings on the tailbone pain.
I went to the doctor a month ago. She thinks that it has to do with complications from my diet / surgery recovery and lack of physical activity. She thinks that the fact that im not even 30 yrs old, dont have a family history of cancer, and the coincidence that im on a huge diet and recovering from surgery ALL PLAY TOO MUCH A ROLE, to really consider colon cancer. But….she ordered me to have a fecal-blood-occult test, anyways.
It came back fine. She thinks im ok. But….why has the tailbone pain continued, and why do i sometimes still have diareeah after periods of painful sitting? Could i have cancer? Im pretty worried. Any thoughts or info ?
I’ve had a history of disordered eating, and now I am on a great meal plan to combat the eating disorder….however, I found that constipation has become a big problem….and for someone like me who is very obsessed with having an "empty stomach feeling", this is hugely upsetting…i was instructed to drink more water, and I have been doing so….although I pee a lot, my bowels have been acting much better….I have been having a good sized bowel movement every day pretty much, as opposed to the rare ones I was having….even when I did suffer from constipation, I weighed about 133 at the dietitian’s office, which is ideal for me….i have an appointment next week and I am concerned that the large amount of water I’ve been drinking to cleanse my bowels will cause a weight gain….please help
The theory that, "eating more fiber will prevent colon cancer" has been proven false. In the largest study ever to examine this theory (88,757 subjects tracked over 16 years), it has been found that a fiber rich diet does not reduce the risk of colon cancer. A 2005 meta-analysis study further supports these findings.
The Harvard School of Public Health states: "Health Effects of Eating Fiber: Long heralded as part of a healthy diet, fiber appears to reduce the risk of developing various conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, diverticular disease, and constipation. Despite what many people may think, however, fiber probably has little, if any effect on colon cancer risk."

in fact some doctors still misguide patients to eat more fiber to help prevent colon cancer. These doctors have not updated themselves to the recent medical studies
the wikipedia article has references. In fact 3 references are of medical organizations. Unreferenced wikipedia sentences should not be believed

I eat a lot of fiber and drink alot of water and I do have a bowel movement every day but it’s these thin long strips. If I miss one day of the heavy fiber cereal either i don’t have a bm or it’s a very small one consisting of pellets and clumps. Seems that my colon is full of dried up impacted fecal matter, how do i get rid of it? And to those that don’t believe in the theory of colon cleansing, how exactly do you explain spastic constipation?
I’m 16 and have constant stomach problems. It seems to go through a cycle of intense stomach pain when I eat ANYTHING to long periods of constipation and trouble passing gas. I have family history with both irritable bowel syndrome and celiac disease. I drink a half a gallon of water each day and really have any soda. I just want to know what I have and what I can do.
So I’ve been constipated for a little over a week and it isn’t getting any better whatsoever. I’ve taken fiber pills daily, but they’re just making me fart a ton during the day and no bowel movement. Laxatives work to make me go but it’ll just work once and then the constipation starts again the next day. I’m considering a colon cleanse but I’m not sure if that’ll just do the same things that the laxatives do?
Pleease help to make my trips to the toilet more regular
I am 30, almost 31 years old, male and overweight. I have been having some pain in my right side around my gallbladder area for about 4 weeks. My doctor did blood work which ruled out ulcers, an ultrasound which ruled out gall stones and an x-ray which said that I am constipated. However, I have a bowel movement almost every day or at least every other day. I don’t struggle to go and have an amount which I’d say is regular and healthy. The x-ray shows that there is some stool that is stuck in my colon and they recommended a high fiber diet and a laxative if necessary. I plan to do what the doctor said, but if she is wrong about the constipation could it be colon cancer? On an x-ray can colon cancer ever be mistaken for constipation? I always thought the risk of colon cancer didn’t start until you were in your 50′s or so. Am I too young to get colon cancer?
I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist in a few weeks, but until then I’d like some peace of mind.
I have recently been diagnosed with postviral gastroparesis. Although I am tolerating the low fat low diet fairly well (oh how I miss fresh veggies and loathe baby food!), I have developed a strong tendency towards constipation. I believe this is due to the "low fiber" part of my diet. I am a little concerned about this because of a strong family history of colon cancer, and fiber is said to help prevent it… What can I eat or take to relieve the constipation?
I’m a fourteen year old male. The urologist explained to me it was caused by constipation and that she could feel stools in my ascending colon in my lower right back. I have taken laxatives and eaten at least 30g of fiber for the last five days, but I still have the urinary trouble. I have already missed 10 days of school and I need to go back as soon as possible. My main question is if a colon cleanse will actually help me empty my colon in 2 days?

ii gave birth 3 weeks ago still dealling with s\constipation and have this hemrhoid which hurts every time i have bowwl movement. i mean doctor said take milk of magnesia. did anyone had this experience and how did u deal with it.i am in serious pain. i am on medi cal for pregnancy only. it hurts so much for so many hours in my rectal area and i have this little piece hanging out. i mean is surgery my only option ( i can’t afford it right now). any advice
During my last bowel movement, as I began to pass a stool, I suddenly had extremely severe rectal pain, and I fainted. The pain is difficult to describe; the best I can say is that it’s sort of a cramp-like pain.
I wasn’t straining at all, and I am certain that the act of pushing had nothing to do with the fainting. The stool wasn’t particularly large, and I haven’t been having any problems with constipation or anything like that.
I get a mild form of this pain semi-regularly, but this is the second time it’s been so severe that I fainted. The first time was about 3 years ago.
Does anyone know what would cause this? Thanks.
