I had a colonoscopy three weeks ago. The doctor said that everything looked normal – no signs of polyps or diverticulitis. I had the colonscopy because I’ve been seeing red blood in my stools and bleeding from my rectum intermittenly. Two days ago I saw bright red blood in my stools. I don’t know if I should follow up with my gastroenterologist or not. I’m not in any pain or discomfort.
About fifteen years ago a doctor told me that I have IBS. It was never really confirmed by eliminating other diseases by having a colonoscopy. Recently, after fifteen years, I have IBS symptoms again. I did have a colonoscopy and it is now confirmed that I don’t have either colitis or Chrons disease. Someone told me that peppermint oil helps. What sorts of treatments to you employ if you have IBS?
I feel like this is terribly disgusting to have to go through for one colonoscopy. anyone ever been tortured with this drink?
Im 21 years old been having a lot of abdominal discomfort for 2years been to numerous doctors with no answers. So they are going to do endoscopy and colonoscopy on me. Should i be worried? is this a safe procedure? Im terrified.
Is the sedation medicine safe? I keep hearing about people getting ruptured organs during this. Is that rare?
I had a colonoscopy due to IBS getting so much worse. I feel like something else besides the IBS is going on. I’m thinking Crohns, but the doctor didn’t mention that–only that I may need additional tests he would dicuss at follow up visit. I am just wondering if he would be able to tell for sure that I didn’t have it–just through the colonoscopy.
My father was 47 when he died of colon cancer..1 year after his death i was diagnosed with crohns disease. Thank god i only have a mild case and have been pretty healthy since but im wondering what are the odds of me getting the same thing?
Doctor says if im feeling fine i should get a colonoscopy every 5 yrs starting now but obgyn says every 3 yrs? not sure? btw im only 24 yrs old
thanks for any info!!
The patient is 93 years old. The doctor has declined to do another colonoscopy but did an endoscopy and whole body bone scan which came back negative. I’m frustrated because she is my mother and they seem to think her case is hopeless.
For the past 4 months of my cycles, I have had extremely heavy periods with excruciating rectal pain. I wear a menstrual cup to catch up all the blood, because tampons and heavy pads don’t work enough anymore. It feels like someone is shoving a knife up my rectum. I can hardly walk and I get shooting pains that make me have to stop quickly and hold onto something. Bowel movements are painful, too. My rectum feels tight and full, almost like I have to have a bowel movement, but I don’t. This pain is ruining my life. I’ve never had it before.
I had a laparoscopy in Feb due to a different problem and it came up clear. I also have a colonoscopy after this first started in Oct. and it also came up clear. I have seen a colorectal surgeon and my gyno many times about this problem, and neither one knows what the heck is wrong with me.
Today, when the pain was really bad, I don’t know what made me think of it, but I felt up inside my rectum just to see if I could feel what was causing the pain. I curled my fingers forward toward my vagina, and the wall of my vagina was hard, swollen, and painful to the touch. I pushed on it, and sure enough, there was the pain and spasms I’d been feeling, the same pain I feel in my rectum. I put my menstrual cup in just to make sure, and yep, it was my vaginal wall. I could feel it through my rectum.
I am now convinced it has something to do with my reproductive organs. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this pain and pressure in my rectum? It seems to definitely be a gynecological problem, but my gyno says it isn’t. Please help. Could it be fibroids or something?
I had a colonoscopy 5 days ago and have not had a bm since. I am wondering if this is normal. I called my nurse and she didn’t seem concerned (I’m not sure she understood how long it has been). I’ve read that anything over 4 days means there may be a blockage.
I am 19 and have to have a colonoscopy soon. I am worried because some people say they hurt when they pump air into you. Is this true?
Also, how much do you remember of it? Do they put you to sleep??
And and and how do they get the air out? Do u just fart it out??
xxxxx
Would you get a colonoscopy with your best friend?
Am 22 years old.
My surgeon told me that i don’t have piles nor external nor internal & no fissures& on rectal examination he found bleeding inflamed rectal muscosa.
.but in a stool analysis i had amebiasis..but i recieved ttt (50 days after start of symptoms)for 10 days(500 mg metronidazole t.i.d)&there was an improvement after temination of therapy..
but conditions returened again
& now stool analysis show pus although being negative for any parasitic infection & culture is negative for bacillary dysentry..
provided that i have no fever,no pain ,no abdominal cramps..maximum defacation times per day was 8(which happened only 5 times during the 2 months but including the tenesmus),intemittent minimal bleeding obseved only on sweeping my anus(sorry)by the end of defecation,no anemia (except microcytosis).can it be ulcerative colitis? or can it be a sequele of late treatment of amebiasis..(please don’t answer colonoscopy coz i know that answer) thanx
I am a 46-yo female with the following symptoms: Unintended weight loss (20% of body weight over 6 months), night sweats, easy bruising, fatigue, persistent diarrhea, low-grade fever that comes and goes, very susceptible to viruses. There is a family history of colon cancer. I had a colonoscopy 14 months ago that was fine.
My doctor ordered blood work which came back normal, a chest xray that I don’t have the results of yet, and a CT scan of the abdomen. The CT findings and conclusion were as follows:
In findings: "There is a segment of the distal ascending colon showing poor luminal distensionand possible soft tissue wall thickening."
Conclusion: "There is a potentially abnormal segment of the ascending colon just proximal to the hepatic flexure. A malignant mass is the primary concern, although a focal area of colitis must also be considered."
As a result, my doctor has referred me to a colorectal surgeon, but I have been waiting for a week to hear back on an appointment.
Can anyone help me interpret the CT findings/conclusion?
Is it dangerous? What should you do if this happens? What should you do differently the next time when prepping for a colonoscopy?
I was really scared when this happened. I took sodium phosphate and enemas — I think they prescribed too much stuff for me. I’m not underweight, but my teeth were chattering and I was shivering. Thanks!
I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy and scared about the before and after, mainly how I’m going to feel. I’m also terrified of being put under. Any info, suggestions, and advise is apprieciated. thanks.
I have been struggling with abdominal pain, constipation, bood in stool and diharrea. I had a colonoscopy done which found multiple target lesions in the colon. What disease can cause this?
i have a colonoscopy tomorrow and ive been drinking golytely as instructed. its been 3 hours since i started taking it and so far nothings happend. should i wait it out or call the pharmacy to see if i should take something else.
While this is an issue I hate to talk about, I am willing to try anything to get help with this. Starting back in November I’ve been having almost constant pain and discomfort in the rectal area. I have no insurance but I was able to get a colonoscopy which revealed polyps and an internal hemorrhoid. I know surgery is an option but I know things won’t be the same if I get that done. Any real tips would be helpful. I have a great sense of humor but this is serious so please spare the sarcasm.
I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy on Wednesday morning and can only drink fluids (soup broth, gatorade, water and juices) all day tomorrow. Assuming I feel okay, would it be too risky for me to play soccer Tuesday evening?

I had a colonoscopy yesterday and the doctor says I have IBS. When reading my report, which didn’t list many details, it says my cecum is normal and it was biopsied… is this something that is normally done or could there be a reason behind it?
I have had spasms of pain in my lower side for a few months. I have gone to the doctor several times, been misdiagnosed several times and taken more medicines than i can count. I have no idea what is wrong with me so my doctor suggested a colonoscopy. I am 48 so i know the time when i should have one anyways is nearing. I was just wondering is one necessary for the condition im experiencing? They are expensive i have no insurance and i can’t really afford one that’s why i ask.

I have been on Suboxone for about 4 months at 8mg. I have been extremely constipated the whole time. When I say constipated, I mean I have a bowel movement every couple weeks. And the only way I have a bowel movement is by taking a laxative and when I take the laxative I take 3 times the dosage. And then I still only have a very small movement. I have gained 10lbs and my eating habilts haven’t changed. So I know the only reason for the weight gain is because I don’t have any movements. I don’t know where all the food I eat is going, but I am very scared. I went to my gastro guy and he gave me a new constipation med and that didn’t even work. I also have taken phospho soda, which is something you take before a colonoscopy to clean out your colon. And that didn’t work. I have sent away for that Dual Action Cleanse you see on TV and I asked my gastro guy about it and he said I could take it if I wanted to. So if anyone knows what I could do about this please let me know.
I am 21 years old and I had a colonoscopy in August of last year. The reason I had it done was because I thought I had some of the symptoms associated with colon cancer. Colon cancer does not run in my family but my father does have some type of digestive disorder. Anyways after the procedure the doctor told me everything was okay and I should include more fiber in my diet. I am still having the same symptoms but they seem to have gotten worser. Could polyps form within a 9 month span?
It was a specialist a gastroenterologist
