Hi, I am 19 years old and I am having some weird things going on. a little over a year ago I was really struggling with constipation and I began having blood in my stool quite often. One night I lost so much blood I was rushed to the doctor and had exams done and they said they couldnt tell me anything without a colonoscopy. So I got one done and after all the blood tests and that they told me I had IBS and I had because of my constipation I got backed up enough to rupture some blood vessels. But, they said it was nothing to really worry about if I did the diet they gave me and I had for a while. After I got off it I was still doing ok. Then suddenly 2 nights ago something strange happened. I passed gass and tons of blood came out. It stopped pretty quickly but it came with no bowl movement or anything. It was bright red though so I dont know that I should be concerned. I was having lots of stomache aches that day and I might have ruptured another vessel. But then the next day, when I pushed on my side, I felt very sharp pains and I felt small lymphnodes. The pain was not only sharp when they were touched but it lasted for a min or 2 after I touched them. Theres about 3 right now. Then today I felt the same pain right under my right rib in my back. I have no clue if thats all related. I know someone that felt lumps in her stomach and was diagnosed with cancer. I want to know, if #1 could i get colon cancer so quickly even after all the blood test and scans I had done about a year ago? #2 are lumps part of colon cancer? #could i just have swollen lymphnodes and its no big deal? #3 could I have something else wrong with me thats not related to my colon. can blood be a sign of something else? Also, this pain I explained being on those spots, I have a similar pain all over my body, mostly the fatty places on my arms and legs. if i push on then i experience a sharp pain that feel like i got a bruise. but those pains are not as bad as on my stomache and back. anywyas if someone could anser my questions i numbered that would be great. we dont really have to money right now to go to the doctor and hear its nothing. so. help would be apprectiated.
Back in mid october I went to the hospital for attempted suicide. I had convinced myself that I had colon cancer and that I was going to die. The reason I thought this was because I was having constant diarehha and when ever I didn’t have diarehha my stools were very thin. There was no blood or anything like that. The doctors did a x-ray of my colon and abdomin etc and they said there was no tumor or polyp or anything like that, but they didn’t tell me what the problem was. So I was releaved and went home without knowing what was wrong with me… Ever since then I’ve still had diarehha on and off and my stools are very thin 98% of the time. And the day after valentines My stool was RED and I freaked out! My girlfriend told me to calm down because she used a buttload of red food coloring in these cupcakes that she made me so I didn’t think anything of it. Then again on monday I have RED stools and diarehha. The day before I had hot wings and that morning I had some left over red velvet cake. My doctor assured me last month that it’s not cancer because i’m very young and he feels no mass in my lower abdomin and such. My main question here is could colon cancer have developed since october? I’m 19 years old, there is no history of it in my family that I know of, but I have a very poor diet. Please help, I’m scared out of my mind and I can’t take it anymore.

Say you had a symptom of colon cancer maybe 4 years ago, but then 4 years later you feel fine, energetic and still feel good and healthy even after hard days labor, have a good appetite, no nausea or fatigue, etc and still have the same normal weight is it a good chance that you dont really have the cancer? Or would the symptoms actually get worse if you really had the cancer? Reason i ask is because 4 years ago i saw blood in my stool ( which i did go to the doctor and it turns out i have a pilondial cyst which bleeds periodically) I was 18 at the time and now im 22, and even tho i went to the doctor I was still so scared about this, he assured me i was fine, but since im pessimistic it still has been in the back of my mind for the past 4 years that I think about it all the time. Since then iv become obsessed witht he consistancy and frequency of bowel movements etc, and have also become more anxious and nervous ever since. Physically i have no other symptoms and I havent really had anything else aside from occasional gas, etc but nothing persistant. I did a colon cleansing and that seemed to work and increased my bowel frequency. Lately though iv been very nervous and my bowel movements though normal, feel like htey are smaller than usual when i go. Is this cause of my nervousness? Iv been to the doctor and he says its just in my head because i think about it all the time, but i still say that ever since i seen the blood in my stool, even though the pilondial cyst was doing it, I still get worried. Physically i feel fine. I work a physically gruelling job 40 hours a week, sometimes 9 hours a day and i have alot of energy, I eat alot, and my weight has been the same since i can remember, the only thing is that I get extremely anxious and nervous and i still cant seem to stop worrying. I figure that if i really would have had a cancer for this long i might feel sicker , but im still not assure, nothing ever puts me to ease, not even a doctors word.
My primary care doctor has referred me to a gastroenterologist for evaluation for a possible malabsorption problem. My only symptoms are unexplained weight loss of a little over 10% of my body weight over the past 6 months and somewhat frequent bowel movements (not diarrhea, just ‘going’ 3-4X/day, almost always in the morning). My appetite, diet and activity level remain unchanged and I feel fine. I’m too skinny as it is and very worried about losing any more weight.
For the record, I’m a 43-year-old female in otherwise good health; I do have a family history of pancreatic, prostate and colon cancer.
Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? If so, what was your diagnosis?
I appreciate any insights.
I’m not going crap everday like I used too. But when I do go crap it’s one normal sized and shaped piece and another ribbion like piece of crap.

I have been having these god awful, cramp/spam like pains in my rectal and vaginal wall area. I don’t know what triggers it but today it keeps worsening with movement, usually increased pressure like sitting down. Also causes spasms if I strain, like trying to pass gas or something. The pain is so severe I have to very slowly sir and let it peak and pass. The pain is mostly around my rectal area but it definitely travels to what feels like the walls of my vagina. I think it is proctalgia fugax but I’ve had this pain when I sit down for the past six hours…… I’ve had it before and its ranged from one spasm to long episodes like these. I’m currently on my period but idk if that has anything to do with it!
My fam has a history of colon cancer, and my mom is all scared that I have it. I’m 20 and currently adjusting to a vegan diet, so I have a lot of abdominal troubles. I don’t have any other symptoms of colorectal cancer so I’m not super worried. Do you think this is proctalgia fugax? Or is it something else causing these issues?
I do have benign ovarian cysts and I get odd cramps (nothing like these sharp shooting pains) after sex/orgasm. Someone mentioned the cysts causing this kind of pain, but I don’t know that truth behind that. The only thing that doesn’t really fit with what people have said about proctalgia fugax is pursue and massage deceases pain, but it increases it for me! Its excruciating at the peak of the spasms
please help. I’m going to try to squeeze in a visit to the doc next week but at the same time I’m sort of afraid to go.
Sorry the post is a little incoherent. Typing on my phone. Hurts too much to get up >.<
Hmm youre right, it may be the stress, tho not from this issue. With combo of things today was so stressful for me I felt nauseated most of the time. I don’t usually get so stressed so today wa something new and this is the longest these pains have lasted. Thanks
I’ll hopefully see this gone by tomorrow, at least for another few months.
But, the cramping from the cysts is very, very different from this pain >.< I found a forum where a lot of people experience exactly what I’m describing but no one had any answers.
Okay so i’m 19, and ever since i can remember my stools have been what is referred to as "pellet stools" which i thought was normal till i started reading up on it. I’ve heard that pellet stools are a sign of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. About 2 years ago after i went to the bathroom i noticed the water was bloody. I showed my mom and she asked if i had hemorrhoids and i said idk but i noticed after i changed my diet that never happened again. Sometimes i feel bloated and feel like there is a lot of gas in my stomach which read is both a symptom of colon cancer and IBS. Other then that i have no symptoms.
I’m just really scared and after i read up on these things i started think i had colon cancer because i tend to be a hypochondriac. I’m a healthy weight and have been eating and exercising a lot more the older i get.
My boyfriend and mom have told im just worrying too much but i wanted to know if anyone else had any opinions.
Thank you so much!
Also im pretty OCD about things and am stressed quite often. If this matters lol
I’m 22 and I’m a female. For years, I have been getting this sharp pain in my colon that comes and goes every now and then. I can say I probably experience this 12 times per year (spread out throughout the year). The pain feels like my colon is probably contracting or maybe like it’s being stabbed by a knife, because it is very sharp feeling. It can come out of the blue, while I’m lying down, standing, or sitting and it stays for maximum of 5 seconds maybe.
I’ve never inserted anything into that area and I don’t ever use it for anything except bowel movements. I’ve never had hemerroids or any rectal bleeding or anything. I still have not gone to get it checked out. I looked up Colon Cancer symptoms on the internet and the symptom that I have is not among them, so I am really confused as to what may be happening.
If this symptom may sound familiar to you can you please share with me what it may be? I was wondering if I might have Colon Cancer or some rectal problems.
My dad had it back in the 70′s and ended up with cancer but it was also bloody- but he only died soon after- he caught it too late.
my stool was tested for diseases etc.. and nothing
they checked my diet for everything- lactose, celiacs, and artifical sweeteners, etc…
the dr said that due to my family history- grandfather died from colon cancer also
that it’s a high possibilty and i am in the age range they were when they died
I changed my diet some and nothing- the dr said that since it has only been 1 month -maybe why it’s not bloody
anyway i am having a colonoscopy on monday
i know my father and grandfather had bloody diarrhea but had colon cancer a long time before they knew- so
do any of you know of others that had diarrhea during colon cancer
i sure hope the colonoscopy shows them something (other than cancer) so i know what is wrong
dr said if it is cancer i may have caught it in early enough stages to do soemthing about it- that would be great
are there any other symptoms of colon cancer
i just found out my father has colon cancer that has spread to the liver and lungs. im trying to find out more info on top facilities in michigan. i am also trying to learn about proper foods and nutrients that help find this disease?? any advice??
a. They show less heart disease but more colon cancer than omnivores
b. They show evidence of marginal protein intake compared with omnivores
c. They have lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels than those eating meat
d. They have lower sodium intakes but blood pressure is similar to those eating red meat
I’m 18 and in college which is stressful on it’s own. Now, we just discovered my mom has stage IV colon cancer & it’s terminal. She just had surgery to remove bits of her colon, but the cancer in her liver isn’t curable. She’s really depressed and has high anxiety. She’s only 49 too. I’m so stressed and it’s affecting my health and schoolwork and everything. Any advice? I feel like my world is falling apart.
Both of my grandfathers had colon cancer; one died from it and one would have if his respiratory issues didn’t take over first. My mom, age 50, jus went for her check up and had polyps removed.
My question is should i be checked out? I do have intermittent periods of loose stools and constipation however i eat a very crappy diet and I’ve always accounted it to that. Advice?
Do you all agree with the New Proposition to Congress to have Surgeon General Warnings on Fast Food?
Combinations like they have on cigarettes?
I think its brilliant.
One pack of Cigs won’t give you cancer, but if you keep smoking you can get it pretty easily.
Just like one Happy Meal won’t make your kid obese, but a lifetime of eating that type of foods will and it also causes a long list of other terminal diseases like heart disease, stroke, colon cancer etc.
I for one think its about time.
My father in his early 50′s got diagnosed with Colon cancer stage 3. Had surgery about 7 weeks ago. VERY little has spread past his colon wall to his lymph nodes (less than 3)
His chemo is about to start in 4 days through a PICC line. The medicine in the chemotherapy is Oxaliplatin, Leucovotin, 5-Fluorouracil insfusion.
He’ll be in chemo for 2 months, the radiation with chemo and then chemo… Is this kind of treatment good for this stage of colon cancer? More information on the drugs?? Could he possibly find another treatment? What is the best thing for him to do right now?
First off I’m 23 years old. No family history of Colon Cancer.
A year ago I got really constipated. I had a really tough time passing my stool. I finally passed it and immediately after I developed what I thought were hemorrhoids. When I would go to the bathroom I would get a split second sharp pain and when I wiped there would be just a tiny bit of blood on the tissue.
That eventually slowed down and it hasn’t happened in a moth or so. Two weeks ago I developed looser than normal stools. I wasn’t going to the bathroom more or anything, my stools were just very loose. I had no other symptoms. Felt perfectly fine.
I went to the doctor yesterday. I told her all my symptoms. She did a rectal exam as well as tested my stool for blood. She said the rectal exam looked good. No signs of any hemorrhoids or anything. My stool also tested negative for blood.
She said she didn’t suspect I had cancer at all and told me other things that it might be. At this point i’m doing the BRAT diet to see what happens.
Do you think this could still be colon cancer. I have really bad anxiety so I’m naturally worried.
My 24 year old boyfriend went in for a routine physical and ended up receiving surprising news from his doctor after his visit. His doctor told him that his body was rejecting gluten and because their has been so much damage – he needs to start a diet free of gluten, egg, dairy, and beef. If he doesn’t start to follow a diet like this he could end up with something like colon cancer later in life. He was told he might be able to eat something like dairy again if he starts to follow a stricter diet – allowing his body to heal (I think his intestines or something). Does anyone else have this problem or know of someone with similar allergies? This will be a big adjustment for him because the majority of food he eats contain all of these ingredients. I want to be supportive and so please share any tips or advice on how to follow this new lifestyle and diet.
if you are diagnosed with colon cancer that is also in your bones or spreading to your bones is it possible for it to go away completely and be cured with treatment?
MY symptoms:
6 mos ago i had ankle surgery. I was off my feet and on my butt for 2 straight mos with no walking. While recovering from the injury, i began to diet. Hardcore diet. I was over 400 pounds. I’ve lost 95 of them in the last 6 mos.
Within a couple weeks of starting the diet and being on my butt…. i had one single episode of fecal incontinance. After this, i began to have constipation, or diareeha, and blood on the toilet paper (possibly from strain)….or possibly from something worse. I also began to have a dull pain at the lower area of my tailbone, which becomes significant when im sitting.
The bleeding went away after about 2 mos, but the pain in the tailbone has not. I still have diareeah sometimes. Mostly after long periods of sitting, which also brings on the tailbone pain.
I went to the doctor a month ago. She thinks that it has to do with complications from my diet / surgery recovery and lack of physical activity. She thinks that the fact that im not even 30 yrs old, dont have a family history of cancer, and the coincidence that im on a huge diet and recovering from surgery ALL PLAY TOO MUCH A ROLE, to really consider colon cancer. But….she ordered me to have a fecal-blood-occult test, anyways.
It came back fine. She thinks im ok. But….why has the tailbone pain continued, and why do i sometimes still have diareeah after periods of painful sitting? Could i have cancer? Im pretty worried. Any thoughts or info ?
My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer in November of 2007, which spread to his liver, Stage IV. His cancer marker was 349 and the doctors said he could expect to live 6 months, that his cancer would probably not respond well to chemo. After 6 chemo treatments, his cancer marker came way down to 101, but no one will tell us he can now expect to live years instead of months. Anyone know what we should expect?
Ok, i am 19 and i want to start by saying, i am a huge hypochondriac. If i hear someone talk about an illness, that part of my body immediately starts to feel uncomfortable. But this time something is wrong. I have recently had bright red blood in the toilet bowl, as well as when i wipe. I few months ago, i weight about 200 pounds and i should weight about 170. I found out a had an under active thyroid and along with the meds i started to excercise and i lost 30 pounds in 2 months. Now i am worried the weight loss was not from my hard work but from colon cancer. It is the summer and there is nothing to do, so i have become really bored. The boredom has brought on mild depression which has made me more tired then usual. Now i fear i am tired because of cancer. I am freaking out. Seriously i can watch a movie where a killer disembowels a bunch of kids but if my grandma talks about arthritis my feet start to hurt like hell and i get queasy. My aunt had colon cancer but she is unhealthy. She smoked (until she got it), is overweight, and has a terrible diet and she is like 60. Please help me, if the colon cancer does not kill me i will worry until i give myself ulcers. I get a blood test every month to test my thyroid and as of now everything else is normal. What do you think…..am i just going insane?
Our son has colon cancer. He has no ins. He needs treatment. Where can we find help?
So i have been constipated for about two weeks now, and about a month ago i had a bad case of diarrhea. Throughout these two weeks i have been getting these symptoms: clear mucus out of my rectum, pain in my stomach(usually with bowel movement), and hard small stools. When i started using laxatives my stool started coming not as wide as before. i know i should probably see a doctor for this question, but im thinking it is just constipation, and i should simply just change my diet.
my question is, is it possible i have colon cancer?
I don’t mean how long like when they taking it. I mean – how many months? Up until they are okay or for their whole life?
And how often? once ia week? Twice?
I’im talking about COLON CANCER
ladydoctor, i know that, that’s not telling me any.
