Question about adhesions and Small Bowel Obstruction?
My mum had a small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions. The surgeon didn’t have to resect the part of her bowel though, but I read that ‘despite the best skills of the finest surgeon, the body creates more bowel adhesions as it heals from the surgery designed to remove them’. Would this happen to her even though the sugeon didn’t resect it?

An adhesion band may cause gangrene of the bowel by interfering with its blood supply. The nonly the affected (gangrenous) bowel is resected, otherwise not.
Chances of adhesion formation are always there. There is no way it may be guaranteed that there won’t be any adhesions. Healing without infection and regular bowel movements after the recovery are factors that may prevent them. Previously they used to give iodine injections, but they have stopped I think because of being ineffective. So, nothing remains more to be done. Just hope it will be ok.
All the best for your mum’s speedy and complete recovery..!`
