My mom is about to go through Chemo and radiation, How can I help her diet wise? shes 90 pounds atm so the?
doctor is going to wait 5 weeks before she starts on it. She had a tumor in her colon removed. I love my mom and honestly this is the most hardest thing i am going through, she is staying with me because my father stresses her out about money. I also need some words of encouragement please.

If she needs more calories, she needs good calories..make her drink some Ensure (not Glucerna) keep something on her stomach, cause the chemo might make her sick..so make her eat something…soup, crackers (they have wonderful wheat/veggie crackers), cheese, milk…fruits and veggies (they have prewashed/cut everything these days…)
She’s going to be fine…my in-laws have both had 2-3 types of cancer and they’re perfectly fine (and heading on to their 80′s)…meds have come a LONG way in the past 20 yrs..
So keep busy…keep positive and keep the Dr’s apts…you’ll both be Ok…
(and tell Dad he’s a jackass…he needs some therapy (and maybe a good swift kick…) )
Good luck to you and your Mom ! [[[ ]]]
Be very supportive. She needs you now. Make her feel happy and relaxed. Also talk to the doctor to see how you can help your mother. I am really sorry to hear this.
Your mom needs a diet that consists of protein (chicken, turkey, tuna) fresh veggies, & fresh fruit. Whole grain bread & cereal are best for her too. You need to watch her fat & sodium content as well. Read labels when shopping & stay away from "hydrogenated" fats. Processed meats & meals are not healthy for your mom or anyone else as far as that goes. A milkshake now & then will put some weight on your mom also. Have her drink a lot of water daily as well. I’m so sorry that your mom has to go through chemo/radiation. Her long & difficult journey will soon begin, so be there for her. She needs you. You’re a wonderful daughter to be so concerned about your mom’s diet & having her there with you is best. I will keep you both in my prayers.
In theroy healthy foods, low fat, low salt, etc., etc. are important to helping your mom keep as healthy as possible during chemo, however, sometimes chemo causes sores in the mouth and throat making it difficult to eat most any type of food. There were days and weeks when all I could eat were eggs, potatoes and tomatoes, everything else tasted nasty. Some doctors recommend soft foods, milk shakes, smoothies, anything that the patient can tolerate.
lot of TLC tender loving care give her jello watermelon yogurt some things that keeps her stomach cool.Imodium for motions.fruits also.go on line for natural healing for colon cancer or try how to help for chemo.my mom had 6 chemo had surgery and now 6 more keemo she needs.so don’t worry give her time take good care and love her if she gets angry ignore her they get cranky so ignore her and have fun don’t make her feel sick.she will be OK good luck.they say don’t say u r sick if u say u sick u get sick u t OK just give her mash potato or some thing soft to eat because some time she will feel like throwing up.have faith pray a lot donate money to poor feed the birds when u give god gives you.when u pray god listens god said u ask i give you.
During chemo the best things to give her to eat will be the things she feels like eating and thinks will make her feel better.
Chemo is not the time to start trying a healthy new eating regime.
For much of the time during chemo the only food I wanted was bland carbohydrates – mashed potato especially. The steroids that are given with chemo can hugely increase the appetite and many people now actually put on weight during chemo – I did.
My best wishes to your mum for her treatment; she’s fortunate to have such a caring daughter
