Is IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) a valid way to excuse myself from jury duty?
I have Crohns disease and just got a letter for jury duty. Do you think its a valid medical excuse? But I don’t want it to seem like I’m using my condition to get out of it. I just really don’t think I’d be able to sit for that long in a court room if chosen.

Sometimes a valid medical excuse is accepted to excuse you from jury duty. My suggestion to you is to call the Court Clerks office and talk to them about your condition, and see if they would authorize you to be excused.
yes a foul way..
The government takes jury duty seriously, and it is not easy to get out of. If you have a medical reason for not serving, you must submit a doctor’s statement containing condition and prognosis to the Jury Commission (the address should be on the back of your summons). Your request for exemption should be submitted as early as possible after receipt of your summons.
If that doesn’t work act like you have a screw lose and start talking to yourself. Say "stop it! If I can see you, so can they. STOP IT! Cocksucker!!" And try a little bit of Tourettes, or come off as a biggot whichever works.
You don’t excuse you from jury duty, a judge does. Try just going in there and telling them you’re a racist, homophobic liar. Didn’t I read that somewhere?…
You could probably make a case for not serving, make sure you let the court know ASAP.
I would say yes but only if you really have IBS, jury duty is important to the government.
Yes, I have Crohns. Your doctor can and should write you a letter to excuse you. Or, you can ask them to put a Porto potty next to your chair. Or, if they won’t respect it. Excuse our self enough for use the restroom and that will really put a wrench in the works. You have a right to say that you have Crohns and that you would be a BIG problem.
You need to supply them with a letter from your doctor stating that you have a medical condition that would not allow you to sit for prolonged periods of time. You do not have to disclose your medical condition.
If you can get a doctor’s note for it, yes, I think you can get out of it. They can’t force you to go if you have a medical condition.
If your not having a flare up i don;t know if it will do or not. Get your doctor to get you a waiver if you don’t think you can serve.
Having IBS I would say that depending on the level of your Crohns you might be able to get out of jury duty. Its worth looking into and asking.
I don’t see why you can’t simply say that you have a medical condition that prevents you from sitting in one spot for too long. It’s the truth, and I don’t think they can legally pry for more information.
I definatly think it’s a valid reason.
It’s not an excuse, don’t apologise for having a medical condition.
