Well if you are dissecting the rat I think it is easier to see that the stomach leads in the duodenum and then J, which I use to remind me that I am entering the jejunum- the J basically means it seems there is a hook, so the straight part of the J is the duodenum and the hook is the jejunum and then right before the cecum is the ileum; the end part. Look at wiki or other websites to see if they can help more.
you need to go online or in an anatomy of animals book and study the photos really closely. Usually there are differences that you can see even if the intestines are in pieces.
