How can I minimize the pain during a vaginal/rectal exam?
Sometimes it really hurts when the doctor sticks her finger up my vagina. Once the doctor hand to put her whole hand in my anus even. It was not the best. Any advice? ![]()

If you relax fully it shouldn’t hurt, just feel full and strange. So, chances are you aren’t relaxing enough. Thats not surprising since someone you really don’t know is about to go inside your vagina. Ask if they are able to sedate you a bit – most doctors will give you pills to take the edge off. With them, you end up in kinda a dreamy state while in the stirrups and don’t really care about the exam. Most importantly, your vagina relaxes fully while you don’t worry and the exam is easier and doesn’t hurt.
Exhale when she inserts herself. Really think of something else, of a TV show – anything!
I hope that the doctor is well qualified……………………
tell him to put some extra lubrication………Good luck…….take care…:-)
try and really relax your muscles and focus on something else whilst its going on
The best way is to relax your muscle and take your boyfriend or husband along with you.
All the best
It’s easy to say "Relax" or "Breathe" but it doesn’t happen, does it? I have the same problem, so I have a little white pill (Xanax) that I take before my exams. It makes it much easier to deal with. You may want to ask him for a prescription to take only when in stressful situations.
I couldn’t go to the doctor without them.
