what does Ascending colon infarction and obstruction mean?
Also what does Torsion of Hepatic Flexure of the Colon mean?
I want to know because these are the two things that are on my brothers death certificate as his cause of death

I’m not totally sure, but I may be able to break this down. an infarction is pretty much is the death of tissue and an obstruction is a blockage..so i guess it literally means dead tissue and blockage in the colon. The second part..means a twisting of the colon..
The colon essentially is kinds shaped like this: I_l only facing the other way. the part where it goes from up to across the abdomen on the R is called the hepatic flexure (flex = bends). So at the bend the intestine twisted upon itself, probably then became blocked (obstructed) and then infarcted means same as a myocardial infarction (or heart attack)–the blood vessels became plugged and tissue below that plug in the artery died.
