HELP! What do i do? (rectal pain. lots of blood)?
I went to the hospital yesterday because I was pooping out large amounts of blood. The guy there checked me out and said it was most likely an internal hemorrhoid. He assigned me to make an appointment with a specialist. He also prescribed me with some stool softener. I took the stool softener about 11 hours ago.
OK…Now I’m trying to poop. I’m still pooping out alot of blood and it feels like there’s a knife stabbing me in the right side of my butt. I really try to poop but the pain is horrible. It’s hurt for over a year, but now it’s worse.
Yesterday, when the guy checked me, he said that he couldn’t see anything that was in the beginning parts of the hole and wants the specialist to look further in..
Should I go back to the hospital?
It’s killing me.
I probably wont have the appointment with the specialist for another week. I dont know if I can hold it that long.
Thanks
@Foodie : It was a stool softener in powder form that I had to mix into water.

Stool softeners can take up to 3 days to start working.
Did they give you a laxative/stool softener??
Because a laxative will not help it will make things worse.
If you are in pain, bleeding and cannot pass a movement, you should go to the ER.
You may need to have an enema to clear your intestines/lower gi.
They will probably do a colonoscopy or a similar procedure to have a look at your lower gi and try to identify the source of the bleeding.
This problem can be embarrassing but the doctors can only help you if you are completely honest.
Leave out no details, and they will be able to help the best they can.
Meanwhile drink lots of water, you need to stay hydrated, especially if you are taking a stool softener.
Good luck.
**edit**
Alright as long as it was not a laxative.
Laxatives stimulate your bowels to produce a movement, which is not helpful at all to someone who is bleeding in the lower gi.
The stool softener will work but it takes a few days to take effect.
You may want to increase your iron intake, blood loss can cause anemia / lack of iron in the blood.
