Has anyone had their ENITRE large intestine removed? Whats it like after its gone?
I’m probably going to have my entire large intestine removed due to colonic inertia, and medications aren’t helping and I’m on tons right now. I recently had a sitz (however its spelled) test and they found a bunch of rings in the Xray. Not good. The doctor said that he’d reconnect the end of my small intestine to my rectum. All I’m asking is .. whats it like to live without a large intestine — I know you go to the bathroom many times a day – but what about your diet? Does that have to change? Please provide me details about this because I know this will be life changing and I’d like to hear from people who’ve had this or know of someone who has.

I lost a large portion of mine because of gangrene. I haven’t experienced diarrhea. In fact it is the opposite. I have to take laxatives to correct the problem 3/4 of the time, and I have pain in my lower abdomen because of spasms and inflammation in my small intestines. This doesn’t mean you will do the same. I also have problems absorbing nutrients and have to take several vitamin supplements.
