Hey bummer. Cold sores are forever. Now you will be able to spread this herpes virus to others. Wash your hands. Don’t rub your eyes. There is more than one type 1 and 2. Remember you will give this to someone else even if you don’t have an outbreak. I have found Abreva works best. Good luck with that.
They’re caused by a virus. Next time they start popping up, talk to yoru doctor about an anti-viral medication like Valtrex.
Try the OTC products first like Abriva (sp?) Use it for a few days and see that will usually work. If not then yep I would go see your doctor there are prescription medications for this that can help.
I met a doctor fifteen years ago who asked me, "What is going on in your personal life?"
That doctor is my best friend now and we talk daily.
She asked me this because I kept getting cold sores — it’s stress, not enough sleep, but the virus (which only goes into remission, never goes away) has a strangle-hold on you because you must be burning the candles at both ends.
Take care of yourself. Take valtrex at the onset and for the duration, but most importantly, get plenty of sleep, avoid direct sunlight (or spf 70 the affected area during and following an outbreak) and take care of yourself.
Good luck
