Does anyone know of the symptoms of colon cancer? (by personal experience?)?
I have worked in the GI feild for several years and i am aware of the basic symptoms of colon cancer. Recently (as in the past 2 or 3 days or so) my mom’s health has taken a 180 turn. Vomiting, nasua, black watery stools, weakness, etc…with no fever….the first thing that comes into my mind is signs of colon cancer…maybe its just me being paranoid but we have a bad history in our family of this and she also has had ibs in the past (which increases your risks) she has had a colonoscpoy in the past and everything was good….shes now due for one…i reffered her to one of my old drs i used to work for..but..i want to know if you or anyone u know personally with colon cancer had any symptoms prior to a colonscopy and detecting the cancer? and what made you think you may have colon ca?

From personal experience, my symptoms were:
- severe abdominal cramps
- rectal bleeding (it was a case of drops of blood literally dripping out and would usually happen when I would get the cramps)
- tiredness
- emptying my bowels a couple of times a day
- a feeling of not having emptied my bowels fully (as in feeling constipated).
I also fainted a couple of times in the months before I was diagnosed.
Everyone i ever talked to never knew they had it never knew it untill they got a colonscopy
Your mom sounds more like she has an acute GI bleed going on. Whether or not it’s due to her irritable bowel syndrome is something for the physician to decide. Blood doesn’t digest in the GI tract and comes out as black. Weakness could be due to a low hemoglobin. If she doesn’t have a fever you can rule out food poisoning.
Your mom needs to go to the nearest walk in clinic for an evaluation. She is probably going to need an unprepared colonoscopy to see exactly where the blood is coming from. She may also need an EGD as well. Good luck.
