I have to have a colonoscopy in a week. My doctor said to purchase a bowel cleanser from my local drugstore. Can anyone recommend a good colon cleanser that will empty my bowels? What have you taken prior to having a colonoscopy?

I had one years ago and mag sulfate, a liquid laxative works well, but taste nasty. The trick is to drink it all without taking a breath then rinse your motuh with mouthwash, also use an enima after you have drinken the mag. The enima works right away and the mag takes anywhere fro 30 mins to 12 hours to work.

My doctor prescribed something for me to drink the night before, and then use the enemas in the morning. Different doctors use different methods. Both I’ve had did different ways. Good luck. I’m do for another and keep putting it off. The new way it’s done now, told to me by several that have had, is nothing to it anymore.
We usually tell our patients to find a laxative with senna in it…pretty much the standard at your local walgreens.
What you need to make sure of is that you have plenty of clear liquids! Taking a colon cleanser or laxative can easily throw off your mineral balance and dehydrate you causing you to get very sick.
Gatorade or something of the sort with electrolytes…

You can’t just pick anything out to take.You need to call your doctor and ask him to prescribe something or to tell you which
bowel cleanser to take.Because what you take has to work and it has to work good or you won’t be able to get the colonoscopy done.What I have taken is what the doctor told me to take so give your doctor a call and ask him to tell you what you need to take.

enemas then three hours before the exam i had to have a suppository..the
prep was worse than the colonoscopy
