Colon polyps…?
I need some information on colon polyps. What causes them, how serious are they, what can be done? A very close friend of mine has been having problems and suspects polyps. I am very worried about him. Please, if you know ANYTHING, let me know.

To find out if she has polyps, she will need a colonoscopy. What that is, is a small tube with a camera is passed through the colon. You can see everything on a computer screen. The tube has a little grabber on it, so if they see a polyp, they remove it while they are in there, then they send it to pathology to test it for cancer. I left you a link to answer some of your questions. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/colonpolyps_ez/
Please see the web page for more details on Colon polyps.
In the United States, more than 50,000 people die of colorectal cancer every year. Yet advanced cancers of the colon and rectum are highly preventable. That’s because most of these cancers begin as an adenomatous polyp — a small clump of cells that forms on your colon lining. Although the great majority of colon polyps are harmless, some may turn cancerous over time.

I had a coloscope about 3 weeks ago.
The dr said he removed 4, 3 were minor, but one was pre-cancer.
Since he got it early, no problem. I felt no pain, and except for being a little tired after the procedure, I felt fine.
Your friend might do well to have a colonoscopy. They do not hurt.
