I am just scared to death. I want to know if it is safe for him to have surgery and if he will make it
My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer in August 2004. He had surgery in October 2004. He followed up and had good CAT scans and colonoscomies (sp). Everything always looked fine. He had a hernia from the surgery and had surgery on it November 2007. It was rough and he had some complications. Today I found out that he was up all night throwing up. He went to the doctor and they said they thought it was a virus. They did an Xray and didn’t see anything unusual but went ahead and sent it to a radiologist. He was throwing up and had diarrahea which were a few of his cancer symptoms. I’m freaking about a bit because although it may be a virus I’m worried it may be cancer or hernia related. Any advice or info? Thanks!
this is an absolute negligence case. Do we absolutely need a lawyer to aquire compensation for this well documented medical malpractice situation? Should we approach the hospital without a lawyer to ask for compensation? Then hire one if they refuse to compensate?
are you at greater risk of cancer redeveloping after having cancerous polyps removed? and are you likely to need chemotherapy afterward?
.. the situation i am wondering about is if two colonoscopies did not get out all of the cancer and surgery is issued to take out a section of the large intestine
there were a lot of polyps and ones too large to remove without surgery
since her successful surgery she is cancer free. However since the surgery about a hour or so after eating she has diarrhea. It does stop on its own,.She is afraid to go any where now to breakfast or whatever for fear she’ll have an accident. Anyone ever heard of this problem??????
We have a friend who is post surgery for colon cancer and is currently using a colostomy bag. We’d like to invite him and his wife, along with some other friends over for New Year’s Eve.
I had thought to offer him the use of a private, full bath for any personal care needs he may have while at our house. I don’t know anything about caring for colostomy issues, but want him to have a positive experience, while meeting his needs.
Does anyone have any suggestions, what to offer, or what NOT to do? I don’t want to do anything to hurt his feelings. Again, I’m completely without experience in this arena, but want to do all I can to help him have a good time.
He will be 7-8 weeks post surgery by New Year’s.
After being diagnose with stage I of colon cancer (which is basically having a tumor in your colon), how long does it take before the doctor schedules a surgery date to get it/them removed from you colon? 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, ect.?

In a little less than a week I am going to have a portion of my small intestine and a little bit of my colon removed. The surgeon is planning to sew the remaining ends together so I will not need a colostomy bag. My question is what is recovery going to be like. I have crohns disease so I know its going to take a little bit longer than normal for full recovery. I’m pretty nervous so any answers would be greatly appreciated.
The doctor said they’re taking it in for testing to see if it has reached stage 3 or not and if it had he would need chemo……do you think if there was a possibility it has reached stage 4 (which I hear is the worse) he would have said so?? or will he not know anything before the lab results are in??
he’s already had a catscan would that have detected if it was stage 4??
My friends 3 year anniversary since his colon polyp surgery and every year I’ve play a joke on him.
Nothing huge bu it’s something I joke about to remind him; he is alright and alive. Butt (ha ha) need some help. Any one have any ideas. For those who don’t know the surgery involves the doctor going thru the butt to check and to remove the issue. Like I said, Its a joking thing and he cracks up everytime; calls me a few choice words but we laugh it off and continue with the friendship.
wrap around the toilet sounds good. Anything else!
A Jelly what?
I will be traveling by air 7 weeks after colon surgery. My colon is now very short and I am worried about getting to the bathroom on time on the planes. I cannot afford to upgrade to 1st class, so please don’t suggest this, and thanks for any help you can offer.
both plane rides are around 3 hours long
one of the planes has only one bathroom for the 70 passengers (except 1st class) !
Is there anyone out there that has, knows someone or anything about complete loss of sperm production from having a 3 inch tumor removed from the colon? My husband had this surgery and after had no ejaculate at all. All the doctors have really told us is "maybe its nerve damage…we dont really know". There was NO discussion before hand that this complication was a possibility. So it was a complete shock to us when we discovered this. We have been to a fertility clinic and spent some serious cash trying to recover some sperm to have children. But everything has failed. We are left with this big Void never knowing if we will be able to have kids. Im looking for anyone else out there that may of gone through the same thing, or at least shed a little info on his condition.
Also, we have seen a urologist. Doctors have given us the impression that nerve damage is definitely a possibility. But only after the fact.
Also none of the doctors really seem to think its a big deal that its caused infertility. They treat it like its just a scratch and are like "oh well"
In September last year my husband had surgery to remove the cancer that was in his colon. He has had a really bad discharge from the rectum, sometimes it has a very fowl odor. Is this normal after colorectal surgery?
In Sept. last year my husband has colorectal surgery to remove cancer. He had a discharge from the rectum and it had a fowl odor to it. At that time he had an infection and was immediately put on an antibiotic. Since then, the discharge went away but about three months ago he had a back surgery where they found that he had a bacterial infection in his spine with came from the bowel. He’s been on an IV antibiotic (cefepime) for the last 12 weeks. All of a sudden he’s having severe cramping and the discharge is back along with the fowl odor. I called the colon and rectal surgeon that did his cancer surgery and he said the it was normal not to worry about it (that’s all he ever tells us). Is this normal???? I’m so afraid something is seriously wrong here and no one has any answers for me ![]()
