When they do chemo, does that treatment cure them completely or do they still get sick? Does it depend on how long they had the cancer? Can the doctors tell how long one has had it? Thanks

I recently found out through a family member that my dad is going to Phoenix to see some specialist for colonoscopies/colon cancer. He had his colonoscopy and polyps or cysts were found. Does anyone know if Phoenix has any unique cancer treatment centers/diagnostic centers? I’m very confused about everything, but I can’t confront him about it because he’s not supposed to know that I know.

He has stage III, possibly IV, colon cancer. He has had a portion of his large intestine, along with the cancer removed. However 6 out of 10 lymph nodes in that portion contained cancer. Also the cat scan showed something in the liver but he is to get an MRI to determine if that is cancer or not. He will be receiving chemo. through a port, 2 days every week for 6 months. Are there any alternative or additional treatments available?

How long does it take the chemo to start working ?

Should you show improvement on the first treatment ?

Are you given a scan after every treatment to see

if the chemo and radiation are working ?

Will a scan show that the cancer is gone from the lymph nodes ?

I have recently started dating a guy who is undergoing treatment for colon cancer. We haven’t discussed sex other then the fact that due to the treatment he has told me he is not able to. I am wandering whether after the treatment will he be able to resume a normal sex life and how do I go about bringing up the subject or do I just wait till he brings it up?

I’m trying to understand what the early symptoms of this form of colorectal cancer are and how they differ from classic adenomatous CRC. If you are qualified to answer this question, I appreciate your answer and thank you in advance.

I have an aunt who has stage 4 colon cancer and started out w/ 7500 markers? then after the original tumor was removed (metastases in liver and lungs) it was 2500; now after 4 mos of a chemo treatment she has 4500 and has to start a new chemo. What does this all mean? What is a high protein marker count and what is low? And what are they?

If anyone here has had or known someone that has had colon cancer, please tell me:
1. What type of symptoms did you have that lead to your diagnosis, and how long did you have them?
2. How long did you have the symptoms before you sought treament?
3. How are you doing after cancer treatment?

i’m 42 years old, and for the last 10 years i’ve been having trouble emptying my bowel, here in the past few years i get some bleeding too.i can never keep clean underwear because i can’t complete my bowel fully. after i use the stool, through the course of the day i can actuall feel some my bowel seeping from my stool to my under shorts. are these symptoms of cancer? i’m very afraid someone please help.

If someone had finished chemo a few months ago for stage IIIC colon cancer, and then another cancerous but small polyp is found today at a different site in the colon to where the cancer originally started, what would treatment be? Would it be just the removal of the polyp, or would there be more chemo because of the history?

I’m sorry that I can’t phrase that a little bit less harsh, but I have recently found out someone that I know has stage II colon cancer. He has had surgery and is in round 2 of a six month chemo treatment. Will my friend survive? For how long?

nephew is 26 has had nephritis since he was 10 juvenile then has now followed him to adulthood and he now has polyps some think may be cancerous can you have two diseases at once

How prevalent is rectal bleeding in colorectal cancer, do tumors always bleed? Would two Fecal occult bleeding test administered two months apart catch bleeding that was from a tumor?

I’ve been plagued with Rectal bleeding over 1 month. Finally got up the nerve to go see doc, and he scheduled me for colonoscopy. Won’t know result of that until 11/14. Who wants to wait that long? My hair is growing like crazy, and I’ve lost 20lbs since 3/2007.

Are there any other physical symptoms associated with colon cancer? There are no changes in bowel habits. Do I have reason to worry?

I have done some research on this subject and it is very unfair in my opinion. This is what i would like to hear from you and that is your opinion. I have a friend who did 21 years of active duty military service and retired from the air force at the age of 41. He has been employed in the construction industry as metal building erector since his retirement. Three years after retirement his wife wanted and was granted a divorce along with 49% of his military retirement. He was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in Sept.07 and has underwent pre surgery radiation and chemo and had the surgery in Feb 08. He is now having post surgery chemo to help prevent the cancer from returning. This man has spent all his savings on medical treatment and other care and here is the big one.He has been denied any type of government assistanc except for ten dollars a month in food stamps and is about to be evicted from his home. What is wrong with the system or do i just not understand?
