Colon Health Questions Archives

These are probiotics not colon cleanses, and fight off a number of common ailments as well as being great for our immune system. I just recently got interested in probiotics and foods that heal since my grand daughter was born at 27 weeks weighing 2 lbs with a number of health problems. She has beaten all the digestive issues and needs no meds and probiotics have been in her diet now for 31/2 yrs. Just trying to get info from others who have been helped by using these and which is better.

On and off days I have experienced a very noticeable throbbing in my lower right abdomen, possibly my ascending colon? Not sure if thats correct or not, however when it does throb it does it in bursts of like 3,4 or 5 throbs very quickly and it does this every couple of minutes probably more. You can easily feel it throb if you put your finger on the area. Every now and then it feels like it does one large throb. Also, its just throbbing, no pain at all just a weird feeling. Any one have any ideas what this could be?

I was wondering with any cleanse would it take away any cravings for junk food.

If so I was going to do one this weekend but I would like to know health perspectives of others!

I either have Crohn’s disease or colon cancer, on Thursday morning I go in for a colonoscopy.
I’m only 18 so I’m really nervous.
I know a lot about both things, but what do they do once they diagnose you?
Like, what’s the first step?
How soon after the colonoscopy will they know?

I’ve had trouble with my poop and so been thinking about it. Is it covered under health insurance? What is an approximate cost? I have so many questions. :)

she says that brain tumor is hereditary disease
the "nerve center Suraksi and Oncology" at Tel Aviv University, Dr. Deborah Blumenthal, called families with patients suffering from brain cancer to inform the doctors interested in undergoing a medical routine. Previous studies revealed that cancers of the breast, colon and prostate transmitted from one patient to another hereditary
The study was based on a database obtained by the research team from the University of Utah in Salt City, Lake States, about a large number of cases of brain cancer in the United States, also followed the medical records of three generations of patients at least, and for ten generations when families lived in

I need a safe colon cleanser that I can use on a daily basis because my digestive system is sluggish and needs a lot of help. I have tried Phillips Colon Health and Sanar Colon Cleanse 2002, but they didn’t work for me. Help?

I’m asking this because for some reason i can’t eat too much fiber such as corn and lentols. It does some weird things to my stomach and gives me severe headaches. Anyway does anyone know if i can eat or drink something that will clean my colon.

FYI i am not a heavy meat and junk food eater. I’m actually quite a health nut :) .

I’ve had cramping, rectal bleeding and mucous for months now.
My colonoscopies don’t show any cancer, but I’m still in a lot of pain and worried about the blood and mucous. I think one of my ovaries is aggravating my intestines. Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

Last week I had rectal bleeding. The first 2 times it was only a tiny bit, and the third time it happened, I think it was a lot. It was bright red, but I didn’t feel any pain at all. I haven’t had rectal bleeding since then (it’s been about 4 days since the last time it happened), and I’m 16 years old.
I’m too scared to go to my doctor, because I don’t want him seeing/touching me there.
Is this serious, or can I just ignore it since it only happened a couple times.

Thanks, and sorry if that sounded gross.

a. They show less heart disease but more colon cancer than omnivores
b. They show evidence of marginal protein intake compared with omnivores
c. They have lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels than those eating meat
d. They have lower sodium intakes but blood pressure is similar to those eating red meat

I’m 18 and in college which is stressful on it’s own. Now, we just discovered my mom has stage IV colon cancer & it’s terminal. She just had surgery to remove bits of her colon, but the cancer in her liver isn’t curable. She’s really depressed and has high anxiety. She’s only 49 too. I’m so stressed and it’s affecting my health and schoolwork and everything. Any advice? I feel like my world is falling apart.

got a pain when pooing, other symptoms?

Is this an accurate high school level representation of the digestive system path? If you think it needs editing/adding, feel free to give advice. :D

1. In the mouth there are two types of digestion; chemical and mechanical. Mechanical digestion is the mouth physically breaking the food down by the use of the tongue and teeth. Chemical digestion is the breaking down of food into smaller components with the use of saliva and the salivary glands that produce salivary amylase. The epiglottis is also used in digestion by covering the trachea while it goes down into the esophagus. Thus, preventing food from “going down the wrong pipe.”

2. As the food travels through the esophagus, the smooth muscles help squeeze the food in a downward, wringing, motion into the stomach.

3. Once inside of the stomach, the food gets saturated with acidic juices, Hydrochloric acid specifically, and mixed with the food. This is another example of chemical digestion. The food is simultaneously being churned by the stomach using smooth muscle, creating a pulp. This is another example of mechanical digestion.

4. Now that the food is a pulp, it is able to go into the small intestine. It is here that nutrients begin absorption into the body. The Duodenum is the first part of the small intestine and it neutralizes the acid. Bile, from the gall bladder, and other enzymes are received to aid in the digestion of fat. Other than bile there is mucus that lines the wall of the small intestine to help the food travel. After the duodenum the food travels to the jejunum. There are villi lining the wall of the jejunum that help to absorb the liquids and nutritional contents of the food. After traveling through the jejunum there is the ileum that also has villi, and further digests the food. The food and liquid is broken down further into its nutrients.

5. While the mass travels into the large intestine the nutrients absorbed by the villi continue onto the liver. In the liver the nutrients are filtered to remove any toxins.

6. Now in the large intestine the left-overs start in the caecum where undigested food, water, vitamins, and minerals travel throughout the colon.

7. The material travels from the ascending colon, to the transverse colon, then the descending colon, and finally the sigmoid colon. The material from the large intestine mixes with mucus and bacteria to form feces. Muscular movements from the colon push it towards the rectum.

8. Finally in the rectum the feces from the food you ate become a bowel movement.

Upseting the gastric lines means diarhea, rectal pain, abdominal pain, or something like that. Please let me know. Many thanks

It all started out about the first week in December when I became very gassy and would fart way more than usual. About 2 days later I would have to go the bathroom 10 times a day with some bouts of diarrhea. For the next 10 days I would kept going to the bathroom upwards of 20-25 times a day with some diarrhea and blood. I went to the doctor and had an endoscopy, which showed some moderate inflammation in my transverse, and descending colon but everything else was normal. My blood test showed high monocytes and eosinophils but this could be due to my allergy with cats (my family has 2). My doctor then thought it was ulcer colitis but then changed his mind when he found a small obstruction in my intestine. As a result he put me on Entocort for Crohn’s Disease. However, it had no affect on me what so ever. Ever since December, I still go to the bathroom and poop out straight bright red blood every morning (NOT diarrhea) even though I’m on Prednisone, which now has my doctor thinking it could be an infection. Also on Prednisone, I’ve been having around 12-14 inch poops once a day.
My symptoms are just some bouts of diarrhea and constipation (going to the bathroom 20 times a day when not on Prednisone) with white oily mucus and straight blood in my stool. I’m always hungry and never get sick when I eat (This includes dairy). I don’t have any other symptoms of Crohn’s such as pain in my lower right part of my abdomen, rashes, joint pain, loss of appetite and weight, eye inflammation…. Basically, all of my symptoms are just intestinal so does this sound like Crohn’s still?
Also my stools have a very foul odor to them.
And I really don’t fart anymore since the first week in December.

I am a 22 year old male. I have noticed, over the last couple of days, that there has been blood every time I go the restroom to defecate. However, there is no pain. I do not feel any pain and it only happens when I defecate. I already have an appointment to go to the doctor on Monday. Any advice? prefer answers from medical professional.

Combinations like they have on cigarettes?

I think its brilliant.

One pack of Cigs won’t give you cancer, but if you keep smoking you can get it pretty easily.

Just like one Happy Meal won’t make your kid obese, but a lifetime of eating that type of foods will and it also causes a long list of other terminal diseases like heart disease, stroke, colon cancer etc.

I for one think its about time.

Usually when I have coffee my stomach starts bloating and I get these really sudden tight rectal pains that are really uncomfortable, like right near the tip of my butt into my stomach. Whats going on here?

I’m 23 years old. I’ve had some IBS type symptoms as well as noticed a decent amount of bright red blood streaking my stool and on the TP on one occasion. I went to my GP who noted I had a small fissure.

I went to a specialist who scheduled me for a colonoscopy. I had to wait 3 weeks to get it done and in that time I didn’t see blood once. When I got the scope it turned out I had a very twisted and looping colon. This caused me so much pain they could only see the rectum/anus/sigmoid/descending colon before having to stop. The noted everything in those areas looked normal. Now hemorrhoids or fissures. They rescheduled me to finish the scope 3 weeks from now.

Yesterday my stool became solid for the first time since the prep 4 days ago. I noticed when I went to the bathroom and very minor scrape time pain in the rectum followed by a bit of bright blood on the TP.

From what I’ve read, bright red blood seems to come from the area that they saw with the scope (the lower colon) is it possible I just have a fissure that healed in the 3 weeks leading up to the scope and re-opened the other day because of my solid stool?

Or do you think bright red blood can actually be coming from my transverse/ascending colon and i have cancer?

I’ve read that blood from there is usually very dark red or black.

I felt a little reassured after the partial scope but now that I saw blood again I’m getting scared..

My 3 year old daughter complained last Saturday of having pain when peeing. I took her to the doc and they took a urine culture and gave her antibiotics for a probable UTI. I gave the antibiotics for 3 days before the office called and said the culture came back negative. I stopped giving her the medicine on thier orders. Then yesterday she started complaining of pain when she poops. She was sitting on the toilet and crying hysterically about the pain. I was alarmed and we went back the docs again. They examined her and said she was bloated from gas but could see nothing else wrong. She is afraid to poop now. She says its going to hurt. She’s not constipated and doesn’t have a history of it either. The UTI symptoms resloved on thier own. I am taking her to a pediatric gastro doc on Monday to see what they think. I am so mystified and concerned. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

For a while now Ive had issues with rectal bleeding on and off. Sometimes its streaks and sometimes its a big spot of blood. (Bright Red) Ive been sleeping a lot more then what I would usually do. Whenever waking up I would have stomach pain. Its not a sharp pain. Its more so like how a muscle would hurt. And when I do have pain it would be near both sides of my hips and sometimes its above my belly button.
I am hoping that someone might know what it might be or somewhere close.
