Doctors have been trying to find out why my son is having stomach pain. He is 11 years old and has gone through many of tests. The last test was a small bowel series where he drank the barium and pictures were taken. The results came back that he has a obstruction on the intestinal wall. So now the doctors are debating on how to take a better look. Option 1 is too do another small bowel series with and with out contrast. Option 2 is a pill cam The problem with the pill cam is that it could get caught up with the obstruction and cause more problems meaning surgery. Then there is concern of to much exposure to radiation if he has another small bowel series done. If anybody has experienced this please give your input

I am looking for an Attorney who would be willing to help me in a possible med negligence case. I had lap hernia repair and my small bowel was nicked 3 times. I got sepsis and peritonitis and in hospital for one month. Is there any negligence or malpractice I can recover expenses for ? I have ongoing problems and going on 2 yrs now. Please help me if you can. I live in Illinois.
This past week I have been having small formed BM a few times a day and alot of gas ,no pain at all involved.does any one know what that can mean? I used have 1 normal one a day.
I eat/drink a homemade slushie most every night and just wondering if the temp of my stomach is high enough that it melts the ice before dumping into my small bowel. I’ve recently had gastric bypass, so I have a very small pouch for a stomach and I don’t want to stretch it. I’ve talked to surgeon about it and they say it’s fine. I’m just not sure. Thanks for your input.
I had a small bowel series done today and I had to drink two things of Barium. It took almost 3 hrs for it to go through my system and i was able to go to the bathroom right away (it was what white) and I drank two bottles of water right after. However I took a nap and when I woke up I had to go poop but I cant force it out, and I have been tyring to for almost 5 1/2 hours. If I keep drinking water will it get better, can it wait until tomorrow until my doctors office opens, or should I go to the emergency room.
No they did not give me any Milk of Magnesium. I was able to go to the bathroom (this is embarassing) but my poop was completely dired out, and it felt like I was being ripped apart when I was going (I strained for almost 20 minutes to get only a little bit out and I still have to go but I dont want to put my self through that again)
In the last 18 months I’ve lost about 60 pounds. I went from 260 to 200. In that time my bowel movements have gone from normal size, to just a fraction of the size. They’re not even a 1/5 of the normal size. The first four months I lost 40 pounds and I ate very healthy, grape nuts for breakfast, turkey sandwiches, etc. I also drink a lot of water in a days time, at least 7 glasses a day. I eat a good amount of fiber, things like whole wheat bread, and grape nuts, but it seems like what I’m putting in is much less than what should be coming out.
In this time I’ve also been very healthy, I don’t feel like anything is wrong with me other than these very small bowel movements. I lost weight the old fashion way of diet and exercise.
does anyone know what might be wrong?
I have been having weird bowels lately, they have been small about the size of fingers, they used to be logs but I havent had a healthy log of poop in a few months…im thinking its my intestines are twisting up that way i cant form normal longs…any ideas? it might be becase im overweight
My dad has metastasis adenocarcinoma on the jejunom on the small intestine. Is this very serious. How can we treat this? Is this cure-able? The polyp found is 5x8x7 mm. Is that big?
He is 67, can he endure the treatment?
Thanks.
He is said to be in stage four.. the doc said the part of the jejunum where they took during surgery was just a spread, like theres a mother cancer which is in his stomach.. it sux.
Im sorry to keep being so worried probably about simple things but something really concerned me today. Ive had constipation problems (due to an unhealthy diet) since i was 2. I dont think ive ever had a regular bowel movement. Anyway i was constipated for 3 weeks and after getting it out just changed my diet to more fiber fruits and vegitables. For a couple days now my BMs have been mushy because of the diet change, but today i had a BM like usual soft and mushy. then i went to have my 2nd one later at usual time but this time it was just small pieces of feces that were soft. Same thing happend when i had my 3rd one. What could this mean? Im i getting constipated again?

My husband had crohns disease and has surgeries in the past. 1. Small bowel resection-they took approx 8′ of colon. 2. appendix 3.Gallbladder(last surgery) On friday he went in for a colonoscopy and the GI dr came out and stated that his small bowel was gone. I said no it is not and she stated yes that someone had to remove it, maybe when they took the gallbladder. That surgery was about 4 years ago so we know you can live without it but how can they remove 23-28′ of intestines(on someone with crohns) and fail to tell us. What about nutrition? I have read that most of the absorption of this happens in the small bowel. Should his diet be changed? Can this be why he always has either awful diarrhea or constipation? Please help someone. We still cant grasp what happened and how it could have. p.s. he is 43 years old. Thank you
My 5 yr old daughter has been going through a lot lately. It all started with very frequent urination, burping with sulfur smell, fagitue, cranky, moody, crying spells, to now having bouts of sever pelvic pain, lasting 5-8 mins. She has had to labs (blood test) come back with abnormal numbers. And also has had an ultrasound of the kidneys/bladder which just showed an over active bladder. She recently was sent by her Gastero specialist for an upper Gi and small bowel study. Her family doctor sent her for a full ultrasound. The small bowel study showed she had stenosis of the ileum (meaning narrowin) which is in the last part of her small bowel. I called the family doctor to get results for her test and he is the one that called me back Friday evening, which his discovery. He called the gastero on call, to see what they would like to do about. He said, a finding like this in a 5 yr old child is rare and isnt sure what is causing this. The gastero that was on-call said he didnt want to make any decsions on what to do with her, since she is only 5 and he is not the pedatric gastero specialist and was not the one that seen her requested the testing. He told our family doctor he was going to try to get ahold of the ped. Gi but couldnt promise him that he would call him back til monday. I am a very worried mother and am looking for answers and advice. I have a gut feeling this is something that should be taken care of right away. I dont even know how they would take care of something like this. Everything I have googled about it, says it could be something life treating if not taken care of right away. Can someone please give me any information you may have on narrowing of the ileum. I also have concern because her lab work, showed a high sed rate of 32. and high liver count. Could that all be related to what is going on with the ileum? Or is there something else going on as well. Its so hard to just sit around and wait for Monday to come to get more answers.
Thank you inadvance to anyone that can help with this.
Having a small bowel MRI with double contrast; half intravenously, half through intubation via nasojejunal feeding tube.
http://www.cghjournal.org/article/S1542-3565(04)00168-5/abstract
The nasojejunal feeding tube has two advantages. 1, direct access to small intestine for contrast agent. 2, allows for small intestine distention.
The tube has one disadvantage. 1, absolute torture.
Would like to entirely avoid the nose tube, was extremely painful before.
Could I discuss with my consultant and radiographer to consume the contrast orally, in combination with the intravenous?
My mother in law had her large intestine removed 3 weeks ago, as she was ready to go home she started vomiting and there were no bowel sounds. They did a catscan and found more blockage in the small intestine. A kink the dr said. He went back in and fixed it, but saw some "kinks" down in her pelvic area. She has had 17 abdominal surgeries and as you can figure out there was only one dr that would even touch her because of all of the adhesions. We asked him what now and he said that it would take a week or two for her intestines to wake up, in the meantime maybe the kinks would work themselves out. My question is if not then what. We are really concerned and he said that he didn’t want to talk about that right now. We are supposed to stay positive and lead her into thinking that everything will work itself out in a couple of weeks. We just need answers and our dr seems pretty vague. Maybe he doesn’t know, I don’t know. We just care about her a lot and want answers.
Small bowel inflammation, infection?
For a week and a half, I’ve been having really bad heartburn which turned into extreme pain across my midsection WITH heartburn. I started taking protonix prescribed by my doctor when it was at first heartburn, but when the pain became severe in my abdomen, I had an upper GI test done which revealed my small intestines were inflamed, then was hospitalized (by a crappy hospital that wanted me to have a ct scan, made me drink the contrast then three hours later realized the barium I had from the upper GI in my system so a ct scan wouldn’t be possible). I have to wait until Monday to have a ct scan but when I got home from the hospital today, I had bright yellow diarrhea … could that be from either of the things I drank, or might it be small bowel bacterial overgrowth (of which yellow diarrhea is a symptom) ? The doctor only said my stool would be white-ish from the barium, nothing about yellow. Also, now I’m pretty painfully constipated, which is probably from the barium.
I’m nervous about getting another IV and drinking more of the nasty contrast on Monday, especially when it might be an infection, which a ct scan wouldn’t find. But what does this sound like?
Do you know how a bacterial infection is tested? Everybody kept ignoring me when I asked.
My mum had a small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions. The surgeon didn’t have to resect the part of her bowel though, but I read that ‘despite the best skills of the finest surgeon, the body creates more bowel adhesions as it heals from the surgery designed to remove them’. Would this happen to her even though the sugeon didn’t resect it?
I am taking her to the Vet tomorrow at 5pm but that is 24 hours , should I take her to emergency vet?
Im 8 1/2 wks pregnant and really havent had good bowels but now Im in a lot more pain because I havent gone in 5 days. When should I go to the doc for this? When does it get serious?
Is it possible for a small bowel obstruction not to be visible on a CT scan? I’ve had 2 Obstruction in less then a year and I’m having the same symptons but the CT scan shows no obstruction. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I’m going to have to have one to be tested for gluten intolerance and I’m scared to death. What’s it like?
lately my bowel movements have been very small. i eat a lot of (but properly portioned) food. when i eat a large meal i still have a small bowel movement. this does not add up. i have been exercising a lot lately, could that be why? thanks in advance.
My 10 month old Persian Exotic has a touch of blood on his anus or sometimes slight bloody mucous in his litter box after a bowel movement. He has his shots, is very active, very healthy ( definitely NOT underweight), eats normal, drinks water normal.
He does not have loose bowels or hard ( constipated). No straining involved.
Anyone have any ideas what could be the cause?
