Can goldfish eat tropical fish flakes?
I am practically a fish expert. I know that goldfish have no stomaches and everything they eat goes straight to there intestines so they need really acidic food. I also know do to there growable size they need insanly large tanks. I also know they need alot of oxegen and very clean water. I know all the myths about them(and every other fish). But for all the other fish experts I was wondering if you guys think that tropical flakes would be acidic enough for goldfish. Not that I would ever give a gold fish tropical flakes. My mom sometimes does so I was wondering if I should just let it slide? Also if anyone has any guestions about any fish go to guppylog.com or google it if you need to. I am a member there and it is a great website. It started out for guppies but there are experts there that know something about everything fish. Great site with good people.
Ok, maybe you guys didn’t read all of the topic but in there I said they not my goldfish and I don’t feed them the tropical flakes. I asked for some else just so you know.

Well I don’t know anything about acidic foods, I do know that gold fish need 48% + protein and less than 5% fat in their diets. Acidic, never heard that one in 30+ years.
Check the label. If the proteins are upand the fat and ash and filler are down, go for it.
If you need to supplement your goldfish diet here are a few things you can use.
You can supplement their diet with things like Lettuce, mustard greens, turnip greens, collard greens, spinach, peas, endive, seaweed, cukes, kale, chard, broccoli, lima beans, green beans, etc. and feed aquatic plants (e.g. duckweed, azolla, salvenia, etc) or hair algae daily.
For their Carotenoids which are a family of pigments the fish can’t make themselves and are obtained as part of the diet. These pigments result in red, yellow and orange colors. Fish have cells called chromataphores. Those cells convert lutein and carotenes into astaxanthin which is the red pigment.

Watermellons and oranges are also good as well as proteins like chicken (chicken livers) beef (livers and parts) and pork as well as worms and bugs.
I don’t think so. Goldfish are basically carp. I don’t think flakes would fill them up. I know my neighbor feeds his Koi some kind of pellets.
I read that many types of goldfish have delicate air bladders and feeding them surface foods like, flakes, will throw their bladders out of whack. Sinking pellets are safer. Better down than up.
Well heck I didnt know that and yrs ago when I did have goldfish {in my early teen yrs} I fed them flake food made for goldfish and they lived many years
Well, first I would point out that goldfish do have stomachs and I too have never heard the idea concerning acidic foods. Tropical flakes certainly aren’t the prefered diet for them, but won’t harm them either as long as it’s not their sole food source. Others have given you some good info about additional food items that are good for goldfish.

well..fish can live for about 2 days without food but its ok to give your goldfish tropical fish food but dont do it to much because its not that healthy for the fish and unsafe
