Can abdominal pain during early pregnancy be caused by irritable bowel syndrome?
I just found out that I am pregnant, but I am getting cramps. I am worried that it may be an ectopic pregnancy. I miscarried 4 years ago due to IBS so I am wondering if the pain is irritable bowel syndrome again.

Hi. I have IBS and Acid Reflux. During the first few weeks of my pregnancy, I had very irregular bowels and a lot of cramping. I too thought something was wrong with my pregnancy. Everything turned out to be just fine. I also had a miscarriage 5 years ago, so I understand your fear. Do not worry so much about it as you may worsen everything. Visit your doctor and have them give you an ultrasound to make sure your pregnancy is in the right place. With ectopic pregnancies by the way, I don’t know how far along you are, but you would get major cramping and you would definitely know that it is not your bowels.
Wish you the best of luck, stay positive and stop worrying. See your doctor ASAP!
I suggest calling your doctor and get in to see your doctor.
to pregnancy cause IBS symptoms to intensify but better safe than sorry see your physician ASAP>
If you are already diagnosed with IBS, then that could be the cause of your cramping. Depending on how far along you are, you could also be experiencing a few different things. You may be dealing with implantation; if this would be a normal time for your period, it could just be the influx of hormones, you may have gastritis. Also, if you are having any bleeding, remember that red blood signifies new blood and you MUST contact your ob/gyn immediately. If it is brown, then that could be implantation.
Either way, if you are concerned, I would contact your ob/gyn with your concerns and get in as soon as possible.
Cramping in early pregnancy can be cause by many things, implantation, your uteris expanding to make room for your new baby, etc… I had some cramping, and even some bleeding when I was pregnant with my daughter.
With you history I would definately recommend speaking with your doctor about your symptoms as soon as possible, but at the same time I would try to stay as relaxed about the situation as you can. There is no reason to stress before you know what is going on. Especially because stress can cause more problems.
Best of luck!
It could really be a number of things. None of us here are qualified to say really. Please make a doctor appointment asap. No amount of cramping during pregnancy is good. I had severe cramping at 15 weeks pregnant, and took myself to the ER. They never did find out what was wrong, but I never had another episode like that. Me and baby are just fine. Good luck to you.
I can say the same i’m approx 4/5 weeks and looking at really bad pain mysabs so much so that i woke up with it, and yet when ive been the loo i’m fine for a short amount of time, i’m reckoning its IBS but how will i know? i also miscarried 4 years ago, so i’m worried like anythin currently…i’m with my doctor on tuesday…shall i wait this long? or should i go re book and see them? x
best advice is to consult a profesional doctor.
The ultrasound is the best idea, hope you get back to us on how it went.
Do a bit of research on dunaliella salina – it has stopped my cramping.
My previous menstrual cycle started on Nov. 27 and so lasted 4 days. It is now December nineteenth and I am having very light, darkish bleeding together with slight cramping pains. I’ve been trying to conceive for a couple months now. Might this be implantation bleeding? If it is, in how much time can one have a test for pregnancy?
