Bright red rectal bleeding without pain?
I am a 21 year old female. I am being treated with prilosec otc for acid reflux. My doctor had asked me if I had any blood in my stools. I know it may be funny, but I look at my stools every time I pass one. I had not had blood in my stool until today. I have been on prilosec for a week now. This morning, I had a bowel movement and there was a lot of blood. Not mixed in with my stool. It was also dripping from me. I am in no pain at all, am not constipated, or having trouble passing my stools. This happened the same night. Same amount of blood and no pain. I am worried something may be wrong but I am not sure what. It is Saturday, my doctor is obviously not in on Sunday. Is this something I should get checked out right away or wait a few days and see. I have not had anything like this happen to me before.

Actually, there is a difference with blood in your stool and blood coming out when you release. I’m not a doctor but I would recommend calling a nurse. They have this number that you can call and they will recommend what you should do.

Visit your doctor as soon as possible. Rectal bleeding isn’t listed as a side effect of Prilosec, so it’s likely that it’s something else. If you feel you need treatment before monday, visit the emergency room.
