I just went threw surgery on Thursday to have my apendex and a "mass" removed from my colon. I came home form the hospital yesterday and i’m concerend because I started eating solid food again on Friday Morning and Its now Sunday and I still havent had a BM? The dr has me on a stool softner but i’m still concerned….ugh?
They have me on percocet, however I don’t really take it….They told me it would cause constapation! The last time I took it was Saturday night and that was only 1 pill!?!? Yes the DR started me on solid food Friday morning, and Yes He discharged me on Saturday? I’m drinking lots of fluid and i can kinda "feel" things moving down there….i’m passing gas just no BM?!

Suspect you are taking pain meds which can be awfully constipating, and make things just STOP.
Since you have had such recent bowel surgery, need to follow up with your doc the minute his office opens on Mon. The LAST thing you want is an impaction, so do call and he will be glad that you did. Can just leave a msg with the receptionist, be sure to emphasize that you just had bowel surgery on Thurs. Did he give the okay for you to starts solids on Friday?
Call the doctor ASAP! They should not have allowed you to eat that fast. It should have been at least another day.
I am so sorry you have been through a lot. My husband just had his hip replaced last month and had the same problem from the Iron pills and pain pills. They also had him on one stool softener AM and PM. But his patient handbook said to take 2 Ducolax AM and PM until things started moving, It only took him 4 pills to get relief.
We then continued with 1 Ducolax AM for just another day or so. Since then he drinks a ton of water and keeps the stool softeners going until he is completely off the meds. Good luck to you and get lots of TLC.
they released you from the hospital post op without checking for you BM ?? I would call up the doc and leave a message, you definately don’t want to risk constipation or impaction. It could be the meds, but it could be something else. The MD will want to know about this tho.
There are so many pain meds that cause constipation, it’s hardly worth the effort of switching.
To deal with it, I can only give my usual answer: take an enema (it’s more effective, quicker and less risky overall than oral laxatives). A proper nozzle-and-bulb job would be best, but a Fleet is ok.
